March 12, 2017 at 7:33 pm in reply to: Avid MC 8.7 and Resolve Tape Name issue – bogus msmMMOB.46 namesHi Michael,
The DIT sent me several screen shots of his Resolve setup but they have info about the film all over them that I don’t necessarily feel comfortable posting here.
Would it be possible to e-mail them to you?
When I look at them, it appears that all of the values are correct.I have not changed the way that I’m bringing them in to Avid…..and of the 8 days that he sent me, ONE of them imported fine!
When you ask about changing the camera…..the DIT did transcode B Roll footage that had been shot on a Black Magic camera at some point during the shoot and then went back to transcoding from the original camera….an Alexa.
Do you think that could have caused some of the issues? Thanks!

I sent the DIT this screen grab for setting the correct reel names and he said he had done that!
Is what you’re talking about in a different tab? What’s perplexing is that the first half of the film was fine…..this issue just started half way through and he’s saying it’s something I’ve introduced. I’m pretty certain I’ve changed nothing on my end…..but I’m totally happy to be wrong if it solves the issue and I can get back to editing the film!! ????
Is there something that you know of that I could be doing in Avid to produce this error?

That was EXACTLY what I needed…..THANK YOU!!!!
I had tried so many different behaviors but who knew that THROW was the one I needed.
You literally have saved me from pulling all of my hair out 🙂I can still see a very slight vertical shift from where it begins to where it ends, but despite minuscule tweaking I don’t seem to be able to eliminate that. If you have any other suggestions for final perfection, I’d love to hear them.
Profoundly grateful!

Hi Noah,
I got the Projects and Events to update but all of the media was offline! When I tried relinking it wouldn’t because the “attributes” were different. I’ve run into this before! I found it very useful that I could override that dialog in 7…..is there a work around in X when that happens?
Thanks

Hey Jeremy,
I have both on the same HD but the drive is NOT partitioned 🙁
Yes….I know better than to ever open them simultaneously.
Sad that Apple made their programs so hostile towards each other!!!
Thanks for responding,

Hi Jeremy,
Yes,that is correct….Shift-1 wasn’t working either – it made the little icons change in the buttons to the left of the pull down menu but the selector was stuck on VIDEO ONLY!
The audio was turned on and playing fine in the browser. The reason I speak in past tense is that this morning I was able to fix it 🙂 It occurred to me that I had switched over to FCP 7 (which I am running on the same system) – just before this all started on X!
I am simultaneously doing a recut on a doc that was cut on 7. Both programs had been working great…..and I had switched back and forth before without any problems.
Yesterday, I had been trashing X’s preferences, but not 7’s. This morning I did BOTH, verified and repaired disk permissions, repaired the HD, emptied the trash, restarted and voila…..it worked!! I think it was a weird conflict between X and 7….if anyone knows what would have caused this weird audio glitch, I’d love to hear from them.
I know they don’t recommend working on both programs on the same HD but it was working for me up until then!!
Thanks!

Thanks Bill — I’ll check out your recommendations!

…and make sure you are using the right version of XML…it would be an earlier version for FCP 5.
