So sorry for the very late response…..you probably have it figured out by now! I haven’t ever tried taking a project from FCP 7 to 5, but I’d imagine an earlier version of XML may work….try 1 and 2 and see which one opens in FCP 7.

    Hi,

I read the thread here that FCP 7 is backwards compatible with FCP 6 using XML to export the project from FCP 7….but when I try to open the project in FCP 6.0.6 – it opens a different project that I’ve been working on for months….and when I try to import an XML file – I get the error message: no translation templates matching the selected XML file were found. Unable to import this file.

Can anyone weigh in on these compatibility issues? I have a huge project on FCP 6 that I simply cannot compromise in ANY way with this new FCP 7 project!!!

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks David,

I had read that besides the “common causes of the phenomenon” noted in this thread that it can also be caused by using Capture Now in digitize…have you ever run into this before?? I haven’t.

I will continue my investigation in search of someone who knows how to diagnose and remedy this particular thing.

Is there anyone who has run into this specific issue? – please read the thread.
    Thanks

    Hi Shane,

Nope – neither the LIMIT CAPTURE/EXPORT nor the LIMIT CAPTURE NOW are checked in the scratch disk tab.

I have no trouble playing these clips in FCP ….so I’m really not sure what ramifications there may be later?

Thanks again for trying to help me figure this out,

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the response – but unfortunately that’s not the issue….I am looking at the drive now and it is DEFINITELY formatted “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”
I had read on previous threads that this anomaly is sometimes created with long clips using the Capture Now function –do you know anything about that?
Also- is there a way for me to check if thess few clips are going to somehow create issues when we online?

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your response.
A while back I did move my media using drag and drop and everything relinked fine….but the project has gotten way more complex since then and like I said – the edit is 85% done.

Just so that I follow the pitfalls – why would you choose NOT to drag and drop in the middle of a big project? Is it in case not everything relinked?….when/why does that happen? Since I didn’t originally set up this project and there are MANY hours of material from several sources, I cannot be 100% certain that everything is organized perfectly!

    Thanks again,
    Sherril
