“Others may disagree with this, and I hope they join in, saying WHY they disagree.”

Actually, I agree with you Dave. I would just add that AE, gives you much more room to grow.

Jon, advanced mograph and VFX may not be in your sights at the moment… but who knows how your carrer and interests will change over time. I’m not trying to disparage Motion, but over time – design expertise and an advanced knowlege of AE might take you to some interesting and unexpected places.

    Thanks,

The folks at Video Copilot did a tutorial like this a while back:

    Hopefully this helps.

I agree with others who have pointed out that green may not be the best color for this job. IMO, a combination of roto and luma keying might be more effective here. I’m not sure where to buy or rent white body suits, but it might be worth a try.

    Thanks,

Lynda.com has a decent 100 level C4D r12 course, which includes some basics of BodyPaint. For $25 a month US, Lynda is a pretty good resource. digital-tutors.com and CmiVFX.com also have some pretty good and fairly inexpensive tutorials.

Autodesk…. Flint, Flame, Maya, Mudbox, Combustion…. help us out here 🙂

Personally, I would use After Efffects and Cinema 4D for this.

December 17, 2010 at 7:21 pm in reply to: premiere CS5 vs CS3 – why adobe did that to us ?

Odd, I get full framerate playback using .tif sequences in PP CS4 and CS5… but these are 8 bit images with no transparency. Do your .tga sequences have an alpha channel by any chance… also, are they 16, 24 or 32 bit?

    Thanks,

December 14, 2010 at 7:21 pm in reply to: Why is premiere unable to utilize my processor?

“By multi-processor I assume you mean a dual socket motherboard such as SR-2 running two Intel Xeon processors”

Yeah… that seems pretty steep at first blush. But you can’t really look at the intial price of hardware or software to determine it’s value. You have to look at what you would have to spend to rent, lease or pay someone else, in order to do the work you need to do. In other words, you have to understand if your product has more value than how much you spend to produce it (is your over worth more than the cookies you bake).

Many of us produce work (per project, or over the life of the equipment we use) that’s valued in the hundreds of thousands and in the millions of dollars, or Euros, or whatever… that’s why a lot of us don’t flinch at the prospect of spending 5k, 10k or 15k on a workstation.

    Thanks,

  • Wow, there are some nice looking shots here. Do you have any uncorrected stills posted anywhere?

    Thanks,

“…so many seem to (at least when making the case for FCP over PPro to me) do exactly that.”

Wow, I would not have guessed that. I have heard FCP users say that transcoding or re-wrapping native file formats (.mxf, .r3d, etc) to Prores is a better workflow than being able to edit those files directly… but buying FCP *for* Prores? I’m not judging here… I’m just honestly surprised. To each their own… I would still be using Video Toaster on the Amiga… if it still existed. 🙂

December 6, 2010 at 8:21 pm in reply to: How’s this done?

So true, I’ve seen Michel Gondray use this technique a number of times, and I keep threatening to try it someday… but I can never justify the dev time, when I know I can do it quickly in post. 🙂
