I’ll put my 2¢ in here 🙂
Just because he’s using that camera & that particular card right now, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t get footage from a much higher end camera or update his card this year. I own an HVX-200 as well, but I rent high end gear for 90% of the work I do. You never know where things are going to go & when it comes to editing I’d rather be comfortable knowing that my footage can come from anywhere and that what I’m seeing is a pretty darn good representation of it. That $900 for the Panasonic would go a long ways towards the cost of that JVC plus he’s adding SDI monitoring to his capabilities.

Live as in ‘on location’ from a camera or live as in ‘capture now’? The former I was already familiar with – if its the latter I have to admit I had no idea that was the case…

No TC on SDI ? Is that true? I hadn’t read anything about that until now.
But doesn’t TC come in primarily via rs-422 on FCP anyway? I mean, you need machine control anyway, so isn’t this point moot?

I know this is an old thread, but let me add on here: I just did that very thing today. And, yes, I also previously thought that it would be impossible to do it.
I went to delete a clip that I recorded accidently (bumped the record button while in the process of going handheld) – the producer was talking to me while I was doing this so I was a little distracted. Somehow I managed to select the last 2 clips instead of the just the last clip (still don’t know how) and then hustled through confirmation screens. It wasn’t until AFTER I clicked okay that it registered that it said “Delete 2 clips?”. There definitely needs to be an ‘undo’ button in that menu…

I’ve just encountered this problem as well on a very large project with many short clips. Connecting these one at a time with no clip names pre-filled sucks….

Well this is less of query of blu-ray vs. P2, I’m more interested in how the actual footage compares.
Thanks for replies…

I find that exporting to Coompressor straight from FCP is slower than exporting a reference movie & running that resulting file through Compressor.
I have frequent problems with Compressor – here’s a reply I made recently to another post in this forum:
I see no one responded & I have no advice except to say keep retrying the batch – sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.
This is a bug that’s been driving me nuts this year. In previous versions of Compressor, I NEVER had failed batches, but ever since the new version I have more failures than successes with it. It’s incredibly hard to run a studio with a program as flaky as Compressor has become! I’ve tried a number of different things – restarting, force rendering in the FCP timeline, re-exporting fresh movies for compression, exporting straight from FCP, self-contained movies, reference movies, running compressor with no other apps open, etc. Everytime I think I’ve found the secret, it just goes and fails on something else.
I really wish this topic was discussed more ’cause I know I’m not the only one that is frustrated by it!
