  • I wasn’t, but now I see where I went wrong. I was using the null object created from the After Effects Layer >New > Null Object.

I feel dumb not thinking of using the group null object. Thanks so much for showing me!

  • I’m dealing with a layer that has an object within the layer which has its own position, separate from the layer position. When i pickwip the entire layer, moving my null causes the entire layer to move, rather than just the object.

should be 16,000,000 and 14,000,000 bps. is that what you meant to say you did, or did you accidentally render with the much much lower bps?

  • I think I meant position expression. I alt+click the stopwatch for the position, and then pickwip my target null.

Are you viewing your video on YouTube at only 360p? don’t forget to change the qualtiy to 720p! If that is really how youtube is displaying even at 1080p, then try exporting your video to mp4 (internet HD 1080p preset) and then select customize tempalte, and then go in there and first make sure your frame rate matches the source, then change the profile from “main” to “high” and then go down to your bit-rate and change the maximum bps to 14,000,000 and the minimum to 11,000,000.

Then render than and upload it and see if the quality has improved. if it still hasn’t, then this is likely a youtube issue and I would message them and tell them that they need to improve the way they transcode video.

  • I think that’s the problem, but what’s weird is that when I simply deleted the first stroke, the frame rendered in about 5 seconds, which is much better than forever. Also I had about 41 clonestamp strokes and I have a pretty fast machine but I’m also working with HD footage so it must be the amount of strokes like you said.

    thanks for your help!

Sorry. this is not an issue. Their is no plugin which captures a frame from the project and displays it as a thumbnail. Maybe in the future one will be made. I believe there is software for changing the thumbnail of any file, but so far I have not seen any.

    Good luck.
