Why do you need this? Typically reference files are exported because the export is faster, so that you can then take the export into Compression software to make your various encodes. Save time and space when exporting so that it reference already existing media. Why would you then want to play that back in QT?

The projects aren’t like FCP projects, or Avid, or Premiere Pro, out in the open. No, the Resolve projects are buried DEEP in some database. So, yeah, if you want to save it externally, you need to EXPORT it,…but then you need to IMPORT it and it’ll create a new one as you already have it in the Project Manager. So, I suggest only doing the EXPORT as a backup.

ProRes LT is perfectly reliable. ProRes 422 would be a tad better, less compressed than LT, but LT will be just fine.

If the files match the sequence settings, then you should have no render bar above the clip…so grey. BUT, if there is any motion adjusted, it’ll be green. SO, if you have clips that match the sequence settings and they have a green render bar above, they either have plugin, or some motion parameter applied.

That’s why. H.264 is a compressed format. In order to reduce file size, color information and chroma samples are thrown out. This will change the way the image looks. It will be close, but not spot on.
Also…and I say this a lot….the VIEWER in Resolve is NOT color accurate. It isn’t designed to be. For a true representation of what you are looking at you need video IO from Blackmagic, and then a good, calibrated HDTV or broadcast monitor.
