Printing to MiniDV won’t improve anything. it’s still SD, and the lowest format of SD broadcast quality tape there is. Well, Umatic…but it’s really not better than MPEG-2.
Sorry…this happens to all of us. The best we can do is make the best master possible. What the network does to broadcast it is out of our control.

Re-download the installer and try again.
I WILL WARN YOU… Any project you make in First cannot be upgraded nor opened in any full version of Media Composer. No bins can be opened either. And your export quality is limited to H.264.
Media Composer first is a teaching tool to get you used to the program without having to pay for it. You cannot start a project on it, and finish in regular Media Composer.

When you have an IO card installed and used for Avid playout to an external monitor…audio goes to that device. Period. There is no way to send audio out a separate device, or thru the computer. If you have the device active in Avid, audio goes to it. Always.

There were plugins for stuff like this, like from Digital Heaven. But because this software is 9 years End of Life, not sure you can find them anymore…

If you are aiming to do an OFFLINE/ONLINE workflow with proxies, you need to use the Premiere Pro way of doing it. It will use Media Encoder, but in a way that allows you to relink to the masters with a click of a button. The way you did it won’t do that. And it’ll make relinking impossible, and lead to needing to over-cut everything.
Sorry, you’ll need to redo this, using the Adobe way of making proxies to work with.

Not missing anything. Avid 2020 won’t do it….and it’s a HUGE issue. At the company I’m at, we have a couple machines on MC2019 so that we CAN do this.

That’s how mixing down works. It basically renders what it sees as one file, everything baked in. A separate file with only the sequence timecode, not the individual file timecode. So a mixdown of the entire sequence is one file of the entire sequence…and only has sequence timecode. Need them individually, then you need to do it one at a time…and again, only sequence timecode. And it’ll mix down to the sequence settings.
Have dissolves, those are baked in. You need individual files, that have handles to account for dissolves, but with effects baked in. So this is not what you’ll want to use…just saying that’s what does what you are asking.
You say this is the last time you use Avid for anything…well, I ask… what NLE does what you want? Does Premiere Pro bake in the effect to the RAW and output individual files? Nope. Does Resolve? Nope. Does FCX? Nope…that doesn’t even consolidate with handles anymore, it gives full clip only. No NLE will bake effects into a clip, output it RAW, or with the settings of the clips you are using, and retain metadata like source TC, file name, Tape name…any of that.
What you have to do with those files that are heavily effected are…
– bake in the effect and send that file to be graded, with effects.
– send the file WITHOUT the VFX to be graded, and then add the VFX later
– send all the files to a VFX editor/compositor to have them grade and do the VFX.Shane

SOrry, there is no way to provide the RAW file with FX baked in. You need to mix it down in order to bake it in. Mix it down to a DNxHQ file…or ProRes 4444 or other high end codec, and then layer it on top of the original shot (keeping the original for tracking purpose).
The only way to bake in anything is Video Mixdown, or an output.

Thankfully work hasn’t stopped for me. We had enough “in the can,” and multiple series, to keep a bulk of the editors going. We did have to cut back the workforce at the company for a bit in order to do that, which does sadden me. I’m lucky to be one of the ones who was kept on. SO yes, that did extend our edit times on shows, but kept people working. And working REMOTELY…since March 20.
Production did start on one series, as they shoot in a country with very low numbers, and cast members did quarantine for 3 weeks to enable this….and precautions are still being taken. But we are back up and at least running on a couple shows. I’m glad I have a home office that allows me to log into my work station, and a good software option on the Mac (Spashtop Business) to enable us to edit remotely with very little latency.
