The Green render bar above the clip on the timeline means that you can preview it realtime, at a lower resolution. This will need to be rendered before you output. Alway render everything before you output.

Lay off to tape and MONITOR THE LAYOFF on an NTSC monitor. Hook it up to the digibeta and look at what is happening with that. If it is bad, then stop it and try to figure out why.
Try tossing your preferences, repairing permissions…the usual stuff.

Geeze. Let the dust settle.
But…a good solid Media Manager is my biggest wish. A nice reliable and easy way to take an offline cut to an online resolution. Avid’d is so elegant, and FCPs is co clumsey.

I was gonna offer to catch it. But then again, I already have it…so…
Are you watching the output on an NTSC monitor, or at least a TV? Never trust what you see in those little windows. And are you outputting to beta? DV? what?

The biggest difference is that those movies were compressed with the professional, PAID version of Sorenson 3. The Sorenson 3 codec they provide to Apple to include with QT has far less quality to it.
Want it to look like those trailers? Gonna have to buy Sorenson 3…or whatever is the new version of the Sorenson compression tool.

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows VideoTechinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can’t view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

Dang it…we need the ability to be able to edit and delete our posts. I HATE posting duplicates when my computer decides to hiccup.

The only way I know of is to have 9 layers and to resize and move each one to where you want it.
And now for my snarky comment: Who said editing was easy?
