The Media Tool allows you to see media from other projects. You have to tell it to when you first open it. All Drive, All Projects.
You need only have the drives mounted when you do so. Then do ALL DRIVES, ALL PROJECTS, MASTER CLIPS and you should see them. Drag them into a new bin, then consolidate them (making copies, not moving) and you should be set.

No….I’ve used several times.
Unless this is express pro or somethting. I know nothing of them. But on THE Meridain and Adrenaline I have had no issues.

Is it powered on BEFORE you open FCP?
Did you recently upgrade to quicktime 7? I mean, did it work before, then you upgraded and now it doesn’t? Has it ever worked?

Any particular reason you need it interlaced? Just because it is for broadcast doesn’t mean you need it to be interlaced.

Well, either capture the footage as DV, downconverted from the camera. Or use lumiereHD to capture the footage, or HDVxDV, or FCE HD that uses the Apple Intermediate Codec.
Or upgrade to FCP 5, which captures HDV natively.

1) Set a limit on Capture Now. Never have that box unchecked. Set it to 60 min if you want the whole tape.
2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn’t cooperate with it very well.
If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin’s script to shut it off before you use FCP:

4) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn’t, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.

You can’t adjust the size. As for why it sometimes is one size and sometimes another is odd. It has always been the same size for me.
