See, I know about FCP 7 compatiblity…not sure about 6. That’s TWO years older, version wise. Not sure how that will work. Only know about 7.

No. FCP 5.1 and up were the Intel versions of the app. 5.0 was the last of the PowerPC versions.

You’ll need drives with connectors far faster than eSATA. Thunderbolt 3 RAIDs for 4K 60p. Fast drives is what helps with large data rate video filse.

Filler was notorious for always never being LEGAL black, I recall that. But that was in SD days. Now I have it as act breaks and between bars and slate and it never gets flagged by QC.
What version of MC are you running? On what computer? OS?

The oldest OS you can run on that computer is 10.8. That’s the OS that was released when that computer was built, and you can’t install an OS made earlier than the computer.
128GB would be the minimum I’d go for an OS install. If you plan on the OS and just a few apps for that OS. Many current laptops can get by fine with 128GB (Most AIRS).

It’s ALL about the right tool for the right job. Avid isn’t suited for this as much as Premiere/FCX/Resolve are. But then when it comes to cutting features, tracking footage, offline online workflows, huge shared project workflows, it great. But no, it’s not the solution to everything. I have several editing apps for this reason.

1. Avid is not good with stills in the timeline. It’s still just as bad as it was many years ago. Well, a little better. Before you had ZERO tools for doing moves on stills, you had to rely on the third party app, Moving Picture. Now at least there’s a built in option, Avid Pan & Zoom, but it’s still as convoluted as ever. You need to import the still, which makes it Avid media, but IT’S NO LONGER FULL RES! It’s the res of the project. So you need to drop it on the timeline, add the Pan & Zoom plugin, go into effects mode, click on the IMPORT IMAGE button, navigate to the still on your hard drive. Then get out of tARGET MODE to SOURCE MODE, and use the tools in the app to do your move. But no rotation, it doesn’t allow for rotation.
FOR EVERY STILL! Every one. It’s completely backwards, time consuming. PPro is better suited, as is Resolve.
2. By adding Pan and Zoom to multiple at the same time, what do you mean, exactly? Video wall of stills? Not sure what you ask. Avid is BAD BAD BAD at dealing with stills. It’ll take a LONG time to do anything, especially if you want multiple on the screen at one time.
3. Avid’s CC tools are very limited. Touchy. You can’t push things much, or do a lot of subtle work. Resolve is better than Avid by 3000%. It’s OK to ONLINE with, do simple color corrections, but not pushing things much. It lacks good control.
4. Never heard of total effects. I have Boris at home. But note, it’s over $1000 for BCC. Total FX is $800, so cheaper. But I’m not familiar with it at all to compare.

Which version of Avid? What OS are you running? Hmmm…also, what GPU? I know that the Avid doesn’t utilize the GPU, but it does control the signal going to the screens. Just start happening recently? Any changes to the system between the times it worked, and when it didn’t?

Are TVs not durable anymore? Or are people just replacing them with more frequency because, “this year’s TV is better!” Our old SD TV (Zenith) lasted us 15 years. Before that, it was a B&W TV (model forgotten). I currently am using a 42″ Panasonic Plasma TV…720p. Had it for 10 years, and it’s still great. NO plans to replace it…stuff looks great on it. Didn’t buy into the 3D TV market…didn’t get a 65″ HDTV…nor did I get a 64″ 4K TV…not getting a 64″ 4K HDR TV. Meanwhile, a friend of mine did just that…from 25″ SD TV to 720p Panasonic, to 55″ 1080p TV to 3D TV to 4K TV now to 4K HDR. I swear, he replaces his TV every 2-3 years.
Are they inexpensive? Sure…but not if you do this. What next? 8K HDR?
How much programming is 4K? 4K HDR? just HDR? He says “this youtube channel is…” and “Netflix has a handful of programming that is…” So…all of cable is still regular old HD, the vast majority of streaming shows on multiple streaming networks is HD. Guess I fail to see the point to 4K HDR or even HDR until at least 25-50% of programming is in that format. I love watching great looking content, but not enough of a videophile I guess to invest heavily in equipment that can only watch a few things in a certain format…especially when I’m not sure that format will turn out to just be a “fad,” such as 3D TVs. Until I myself am working on HDR or 4K content, or I see a HUGE leap in that content available to watch…(even rare in BluRay)…I’ll be sitting here with my 720p Plasma.

Uh…hardly. It’s still HUGE. Many many millions still listen to it. And not only talking music stations, just ask Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity…dozens of right wing pundits who have multi-million dollar contracts about how dead radio is.
You might see some of the future right, but man, are you off the mark here.

Any. I’m on High Sierra, friend of mine who got me into this is running Mojave. Another editor I work with just built one and is running Mojave. When a new OS comes out, the Hackintosh crowd is typically able to get it working in fairly short order on Hack parts.
