  • Does the Rorke allow for file sharing between multiple stations or do you need a server for that?

    Thanks so much.

BTW Decklink is doing realtime DV and uncompressed on the same timeline in Windows. I don’t think they do as many real time streams as AJA tho. I guess I’ll have to decide which is more important.

We are moving from a Discreet Edit / Digisuite world where you only renedered certain FX and just printed to tape everything that is realtime. I’m hoping to keep that workflow.

    Thanks Luke

I did one more test. I created an 8bit 4×3 BM job and captured the same clip twice from within the job.

    1) SDI in
    2) 1394 in

The 1394 version exibited the same field reversal problem as imported DV files.

Another clue I’ve heard in the Axio forum is fields reversed on Quick Time DV imports. Maybe that is where the problem lies as you are using Quick time n’est pas?

BTW being able to mix DV with SDI is just fantastic.

    Thanks David

If are pulling these 10 streams realtime can you print to tape without rendering? Or is there some “prepare” work the computer does before you go out to tape.

Can you include DV on an uncompressed timeline and print to tape without any rendering of the material or do you have to render it all?

I want to clarify this is when I bring a DV clip into an 8bit uncompressed blackmagic job that something gets screwed up.

If I use a DV blackmagic job the fields are fine…but then I am rendering in DV and not uncompressed.

    Thanks

    Hi Luke

This is not just a pal problem with DV fields. I just bought a decklink plus card and installed it with Windows 5.1. If I import an existing NTSC DV clip the fields appear reversed i.e. any motion “ghosts” on the screen. Reverse fields does not do anything. Deinterlace makes the problem less noticable.

The board is otherwise great, but it isn’t ready for prime time like this.

Is the problem fixed on Mac? Is the board able to mix DV and uncompressed realtime on Mac?

    Thanks

I’ve thought about doing the same. Most of our long form footage is DvCPro and could be stored centrally, but keep all the uncompressed renders etc locally on each computer.

I guess one could test the throughput by putting your media files on one of your existing computers and peer sharing it out to another and see what the throughput is like.

Does scenalyzer encode the DV file any different from Premiere? Try changing the drive letter of the media files so Premiere Pro can’t see the video files. Will the project load without seeing the media?

Come on. You can’t get a feel for a system unless you cut a major peice of work on it. Asking advice is a great way of getting an idea of the pro and cons.

There is a great thread on Discreet Edit forum from *editors trying to find a program as “elegant” as the long deceased Edit.
