  • More development but still looking for a solution.

So Oddly enough I tried another newer mini dv camera and for one of the tapes(A) I shot with the vx2000 it said wrong tape format. It would not play back footage taken on the tape by booth cameras.

Another tape(B) shot on vx2000 logged fine.
Any ideas? Is that tape(A) for ever gone?

    thanks for any help.

  • Hey thanks for the help.
Booth cameras are set on SP. And the tape plays on the small Sony.

Thanks for the help, another great site I see.

Ty- I want to plug in two mics and a mp3 player into a small PA then adjust the volumes from far away with a hand held controller. Basically the mixer would have a separate controller/remote.

    Thanks

Hey guys thanks for your help. I found it soon after I posted the thread but didn’t see how to delete my post. I added that edit but maybe that wasn’t very clear.

Thanks for your quick responses. Hard to remember all these different cameras.

    Just to finish post.

The editor is going to send me 15 min “reels” as a quick time video file with color code and 2 poop(new to me terms I need to get that book!)

And then export the audio in omf files. This is the only thing I’m not clear on but I assume they stay in sink or have a stamp on them.

Dialing in your sound IS a personal preference, but proper gain staging does have some technical right and wrongs.

The accepted rule is to set your gain as HIGH as possible, as EARLY in the signal chain as possible – and adjust each consecutive gain stage until you reach the last component. This will give you maximum headroom and the best signal-to-noise ratio. Every signal carries some noise with it, and if you set your gains too low at the front (preamp/mixer/processor), and then try to compensate for it at the end, you will be magnifying the “noise” as well as the signal. The “cheaper” the equipment is that you’re using in front, the more obvious this will be.

The easiest way to do this is to just VISUALIZE how your signal runs. Whatever your signal from the guitar or mic hits first – be it internal or external preamp, processor, mixer, whatever – maximize THAT trim control first. Having LED’s to visually see the clipping makes this job much easier – just sing or play as loud as you plan to (turn the master down – you don’t need to actually make noise to set your trims if you have LED’s) and crank the trim/gain until it flashes red into clipping – then back it off a bit to give yourself some room. Then continue down the path of the signal chain – this includes any “inserts” into the chain – adjusting each component until you finally hit the camera, which is the end of your chain.

    Sorry about that

The FCP file that the editor has is around 1 terabyte. I’ve only worked with small shorts where the files are usually 15 gigs or so. Is there a way to export the file to make it smaller, like how in audio you can export to new project file with out unused media? I thought that if I got a quick time export it would be harder to clean and I would rather have the original file to work with.

    Thanks

I’ve asked a guy to shave a small spot and he did. Only worked because He had a large chest. Some actors really care about the way they sound so I tell them that this is the best place to put the mic and they often are supportive if its a long feature.

Are their any pictures of the above techniques?
