Hello Lee,
To me it sound like the is data of the vtape (hard drive in the cache-a) that has not been copied to an LTO tape yet. You have to make that data move to an empty tape before you can restore anything. Maybe you should give cache-a support a call to clarify.

Hello Robb,
If you have the MXF option, catdv creates metaclips that contains all your separate files. So if you say each clip is made of 3 files, you get 3800 clips for each file + 3800/3 for each metaclip container. Total: 5066 clips.

The worker only needs the permissions for the user is is logged in as. So if the worker is running in a windows session logged in as “admin” then only admin needs read-write to the media folders. You should get your IT admin to help you with the permissions, as it can get confusing at first.

Hello Lee,
You can’t do that with the high-rez material. Your only option is to set the windows permissions as read-only for those users. They need file level access to the files to see them. Catdv doesn’t “serve” the files, it only tells quicktime what the path of the file is. The media has to be accessible to the operating system for the user that’s logged on.
It is however possible to do this with the proxy media, you can tell catdv to serve the proxies to the clients via http. This way the user does not even need to mount the drive where the proxies are in order to see them.

It was around version 10.0 that I had that problem if I remember well. But it might have been in one of the latest 9.x versions. I’m not sure anymore.

This is a known bug. It has been corrected in the latest versions. If you are running the latest version, then it is a new bug. You should contact squarebox support.

Hello Eli,
Yes, CatDV works very well in a mixed environment. If you add a path mapping from
/Volumes/yourvolumename to V:
you mac clients should not be affected, they will still find the clips in /Volumes/yourvolumename.
If you start importing clips from the Windows side, they will be cataloged as V: so you will need the reverse mapping (V: to /Volumes/yourvolumename) for your mac clients to find those Windows imported clips.

Depending on various factors in your configuration, you should be able to achieve better performances than that, while keeping a raid 5 or 6 protection. This however goes way beyond what is possible to do on a forum like this. You can hit me off-list if you are interested in professional services to tweak your storage.

The E610 only has 2 ports/controller, it’s the older 4Gb model. It’s the E630 and E830 that have 4 ports/controllers, so he will need a switch.
