but ML is enabling so much stuff on older models that make them a lot more interesting and valuable.
if you can, get a 5D mk3 and enjoy the wonders of ML! and the 4K crop build is already out but you need to download the “experimental” versions -
apple will provide conversion mechanics in future OS versions and 3rd party developers can still integrate their own codecs in their apps – just on a system-level and in apple software there will be a “preference” to ensure utmost performance and comatibility. which is a bold step – unattractive for many but in the end this is why we are on mac!

the absolute best professional video player on mac is SWITCH (telestream) for 10$
it even supports apple’s color sync which only apple software uses.resolve is not color-accurate on an uncalibrated system, the viewer only emulates values, the real signal would only be sent via decklink hardware. you should also disable color sync if you want the raw color values of a video on a retina display!
quicktime is the most accurate out-of-the-box (with color sync) for free.
if you follow this, you can use anything – or have your monitor calibrated professionally.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwjLuUR51gE

no, apple changed to AVfoundation als the new multimedia heart and this is a closed system, you cannot add codecs to that. however, make sure you have the latest version of “pro formats”, this will enable most formats system-wide. this is old news though.

February 4, 2019 at 10:13 am in reply to: Make QuickTime Yosemite stop Converting QTs with somewhat unusual codecs ?since apple exchanged the old QT7 framework for AVfoundation there is no fix for quicklook and QT7 will die completely with the next major release of macOS. make sure you have “apple pro formats update” of the latest revision installed, it will enable all codecs apple supports natively system-wide, also in quicklook. but that does not include DNx or similar. it’s been like this for quite a while and is not a simple “annoyance”. apple takes steps to utmost possible performance and stability, that also means: not everything is supported. honestly, that’s why we are on mac!

February 4, 2019 at 10:07 am in reply to: A problem with export multiple audio roles to Compressorapple strategically spanned certain functionalities over various apps to keep prices low for beginners. so getting compressor together with fcpX is vital if you want more options. also keep in mind that you can use any compressor setting (also the ones you custom made) as an export preset in fcpX, so that should solve your issue, no?
