  • TextUp Bold and other Spherico fonts show up in red rectangle FCPX 10.4.5

Posted by Larry Price on January 24, 2019 at 7:49 am

I’ve been on FCP (6 then 7, then 10.0, now 10.4.5) for years. Cut a number of Docs on them.
    I have a 58-minute doc in rough-cut I put together last July.
Then had to step away from it.

When I opened the library, project and events in December
many of the Spherico fonts I’d used showed up with a red rectangle with a yellow triangle containing
an exclamation point and a huge capital T blocking
    the video.
I have been in contact with Andreas Kiel, who has been extremely helpful.
He told me that I’d updated my project to a newer FCPX version and that after 10.3 some of the fonts were
no longer working. He told me to install XME, etc. I did all that. Still no luck. I assume
because of my lack of facility with the program and programming.
However, he lately gave me a series of steps to take using the coding in an xml.
I’m not a code guy, at all.
I am looking for a way to substitute the faulty fonts so I don’t have to replace
hundreds of lower-third captions, all translations, in the timeline.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(I even tried to go to AVID, with the free Media Composer First free download, but
it won’t get past the “initializing” phase, something common I’ve read on various sites.)

    Hi Sabastian;
Thanks for trying to help out.
The issue is that I cannot find a way to
use the original Spherico fonts on my timeline.
Here are two things Andreas wrote me.
1.) “here are a lot of “TextUp” title variations, mostly cause of legacy reasons from a time where XML wasn’t able to transport font settings.
Meanwhile there are more options both with Motion and FCP.
You shouldn’t use any of TextUp with ‘style’ endings any more, for projects starting from April 2018 you should use either TextUp or TextUp Caption.
In your current case the title “TextUp” seems to be either not installed or installed at the wrong place.
Download XTE or XTI Mojave and run them they will install them.”
2.) “… any of the TextUp stuff is fine as long it is installed at the right place.
The less flavours you use the easier errors can be tracked.
EBU TextUp works fine but I wouldn’t use it any more since 10.3 cause of FCP’s memory management.
You can use the XML to unify the “TextUps”.”

As I wrote Andreas, some of the fonts worked, others still had the big red rectangle with a yellow triangle containing an
explanation point, and a huge capital T.

He then suggested I try to write some code, something I don’t do.

3.) “For something like “unify templates” open the XML in TextWrangler
Close to the top you’ll find a section , Find the TextUp flavours there, they all must be in a line starting with
