Not to mention all the new HDTV and highend DVD players!! How about a card with 3 DVI outs. 2 for monitors and one for HDTV?

FinalTouch was demoed last night at the LAFCPUG meeting. It was pretty impressive and in real time too! It uses the Graphics Card (ATI X800?) instead of the CPU. I don’t have a link, sorry.. Oh and of course Nattress Film effects for FCP!! Do a search. I bought a stinking lotto ticket last night and all I really wanted was Nattress Film Effects, oh… and that 500.00 from Telecine. But nooooo, Mr. So&So had to buy a thousand dollars of fricken tickets and win like everything! I never win…

Thanks Apple quoted me at 500.00 for a gig the store down the street wanted 255.00 and Crucial has it for 189.00. Its apple aproved I assume. I’ll ask..

Thanks, but I went ahead and bought it. I went and did a search and found that FCP5 can run on the old 1GHz. Thanks Apple!! And I went over to a friends who is cutting a movie using 3 or 4 layers of DVCAM video on 30min timeline on the same exact machine. I’ll be damned if it didn’t work just fine and render pretty quick. (To give you some reference of my idea of quick… At my day job I use G5s, both dual 2.5 with 4gigs of ram, one Blackmagic and one Kona, both DigiBeta machines…)

I’ll probally max out the ram soon as I get it and get a lacee 800 Firewire drive to hold the media. I also picked up an old dual 1.5GHz machine with 1.5Gig RAM, 200Gigs internal harddrives and all software installed(FCPHD,Photoshop,Shake ect…) for 1000.00. Thats what I’ll be doing the bulk of my work on. I’m just cutting DVCAM film tranfers and short Shake projects, so I’ll be fine, I hope! Probally upgrade the ram and get more internal drives and a 800 card.

Is there that big of a difference between 400 and 800 firewire drives for just DVCAM with minimal effects? I’m using fiber at work.

Sometimes I think people forget what we were cutting on just 5 years old… They work just fine too.. I’m not saying I’d use one now..hehe

And one more thing, for anyone else listening.. Would I’d be a dumbass if I tried to run two 24inch flat cinema displays, (the old white plastic ones). No, one is never enough! How about a 24 and a 20? I have been holding out on getting my own machines for years and now I’m going hog wild!

Yo Leo,

I just tried to burn a 20min video to DVD in Premiere using “Export to DVD” It looked simple enough… But I just not get to work. I just went to Encore to do it, a long wait in Encore for 50min of video seems resonable. It took a solid hour for me to burn 20min to DVD. Again no menus, no nothing, just play on insertion.

Thanks so much, I guess I was wondering why the original film to DV tranfer has to be 29.97. 35m I assume is 24p right? And different cameras can record at 24 advanced(23.98) which I think FCP can handle on the fly without using Cinema Tools. So why not just stay in 24p the whole time? Thanks for your patience!
