  • I’m wondering the same thing, because I wnat to have AE CS5 running for its 64-bit capacity, but I will never be able to upgrade all my plugins so I want to sometimes also run my AE CS4 (32-bit) program on the same computer (though not open at the same time).

I think I spoke too soon. The mask seems to help with the small details…but I still need to draw custom mesh somehow. I know there must be a way…but I can’t find it yet.

Aha. I have to draw a mask around the details of the object in order to control where the mesh is applied. I answered my own question. Maybe this will help someone else though. Cheers.

Problem solved. I needed to download something called the NeoPlayer from Cineform. It is actually a “codec” and not a stand-alone players. Anyhow, it’s free (though I purchased my cineform conversion software from them). And now I can work on these Cineform HD files in AE CS4, even in 16 and 32-bit.

Just in case anyone else ever has this problem.

    Cheers.

Does this mean that if you only have 8 GB of RAM that there is no point running more than 2 instances of AE? In fact, is there a problem running two even, since they’d together be accessing all 8GB RAM leaving no RAM left for the operating system?

  • Thank you! That answered my question and more! Never thought to run multiple instances to take advantage of more RAM. So the program knows to access “un-tapped” RAM does it? That is, if one instance is using 4 GB, a new instance of AE will only access a totally different 4 GB?

I’m assuming you mean you can render out half a comp in one instance, and the other half in the other instance.

Thanks. Guess I’ll have to take a 24-hour crash course in Flash CS4.

Great advice. Thanks. I’ll use the tutorials suggested. Though Creative Cow is a far more effective searching tool than Google. You guys gave me two perfect responses out of two (versus 2 million on Google). 🙂
