Thank you Bret!
great info.
Can you tell me why I have read negative comments (in several forums) regarding editing and delivering in 720 60p?Thanks again

“Interesting that 60fps slow motioned down to 10%, but still played back at 59.94 looks good.” Yes I was shocked at how good this looked, although this was with twixtor (it starts and stays at 60fps).
But no one has answered my original question,
So, before I move forward I wanted to assure that I could export and deliver on a 1280X720p 59.94fps sequence setting (not knowing what I might encounter down the road).
Thanks

“Which do you have?”
it is mixed footage, predominantly 720p60.
30% is 24p (camera man mistake and I have to deal).
I have created several test time lines to see what works better and determine a work flow.
I am not only mixing 60p and 24p at normal speed, I am also mixing clips converted with cinema tools, and slowmo created with twixtor (down to 10%).
To my surprise most everything looked good in the 60p time line and was by far the best option. The 2 that I expected to be problematic; were the 24p clips dropped directly into to the 60p fcp time line and the clips converted with cinema tools to a 23.976 frame rate to slow it down then put into a 60p time line.
So, before I move forward I wanted to assure that I could export and deliver on a 720p60 sequence setting (not knowing what I might encounter down the road).Sorry for ignorance. I am still just a student of this video world.
Thanks for the input!

September 14, 2011 at 6:17 pm in reply to: interesting discovery with sequence frame ratesThank you Pete.
I have no preference what frame rate I use in the time line. I am running these test sequences so that understand it and have the best end product.I have used the cinema tools to do frame rate conversion and very happy with the resulted slow down.
“you can certainly do that by first conforming the footage you want to Twixtor to 29.97 first.”
When using twixtor to convert frame rate does it result in a change in speed also? Thanks

Nice job
BTW I thought Steve’s response was rude and uncalled for. Did you convert all the footage to 23.976 or did you drop some 59.94 fps footage directly into the 23.976 time line?
I am running some test time lines that mix, several frame rates, but always interested in what others are experiencingSean

Yes a little bit of information is dangerous.
the material shot at 24p was a mistake by the camera person and I have to deal.
the 30p was a mistake on my part, but there are only a few clips I want to use.The stuff shot at 60p was done so based on what I had learned regarding the idea that 60p is more information. thus for this action based video it was the best choice.
ultimately the question is there a problem with delivery if I do edit in a 59.94 time line? I am trying to understand the positive and negative aspects of each choice.
I am not on a time crunch on this and learning is the most important aspect.
Thank you

Thank you! I am running some test sequences in 23.976 today.
can I ask why 23.976, and the headaches are the reason I ask the original question. is it distribution?
I have already done some test in a 59.94 fps using twixtor to slow to down to 10% of it original, exported through compressor as h264 clip.
FYI: I do have a small amount shot at 29.97
Sorry for the ignorance and thank you for the time.

Hi Eric,
sorry for the late jump in.
interested in how the slowmo came out?
did you use cinema tools?
I do a lot of filming with skiing at 60fps for over cranking, and use cinema tools for slowing. that has been great. sometimes I need to slow down more and I am using twixtor.Any thoughts?
