  • That’s all a bit of a stretch.

Using your analogy, why don’t you edit the way you did 15, 20, 25 years ago? This is technology which has seen MAJOR advancements in the past 20 years.

    Guitars…….not really that many advancements.

    Which has changed more:

    1. 2″ A/B roll system, cuts only -VS- Your favorite, loaded NLE

    or

    2. An original 1959 Les Paul -VS- a 1959 Les Paul Reissue

[Massimiliano Gugole] “Our students usually end up being web and graphic designers doing some occasional video editing as and when, they’re not destined to work for TV or film.”

Then I would say the tools don’t matter – just the creativity and getting the job done. It would certainly be best for them to be exposed to all 3 apps, and they can pick which to buy when they are out in the job market doing their occasional video project.

    Exellent points. I completely agree.

I tend to like a company that pushes the envelope and not worry about legacy issues. Apple does it all the time. It hurts a little during the transition, but in the end, the pay off is big.

[Chris Jacek] “I know what I’d call the mentality of that statement: arrogant and myopic. You’re basically doing what you accuse the “elite pros” of doing.”

Yes, but I’m not the one on a FCP X forum whining, complaining, and calling anyone who likes the app and amature, idiot, troll, 12 year old etc.

I have only spoke about MY expierences with X. And as soon as I do, some ELITE PRO gouges with insults and disbelief that anyone would ever use X. That is myopic – “if I don’t like it and it doesn’t work for me, then no one else should like it and it can’t work for them.”

When I came to the FCP X forum, I expected to find people using the program, talking about how to use the program. Not a bunch of whining ELITE PROS dogging every good thing you say about Apple or X.

This is why a few of us have said (somewhat jokingly) “All the haters go somewhere else” so we can learn and talk about X.

[Michael Hancock] “If FCPX works for you and you can make money with it, do it. If you can’t, move to an NLE that does.

Or stay with what has been working for you for the past few years and wait for v.2

That said, Apple could have written a way to bring FCP7 projects forward into FCPX but didn’t. They could have included OMF export, XML import/export, multicam, etc…in the 1.0 release of FCPX and they didn’t. That’s make a lot of people sad too.”

I tend to think that Apple had a lot of pressure to get out a new FCP so they put out v.1 now – where it was. They’ve already said most of the missing pro stuff is already in the works and will be out soon. 3rd party developers will catch up soon.

[Lance Bachelder] “I have to agree with you Craig – people, some of them even Cow leaders just hanging around to slam the program while talking about the big switch to Premiere Pro! So leave already! And if you’re really serious then you better be launching PPro on a Win7 machine! Thinking “I’ll show Apple!” and opening up PPro on your Mac won’t hurt Apple a bit – you’ll probably need to upgrade in a big way to get the most out of the software too. And when you discover how truly crappy PPro is don’t come crying back here… go over to the Avid forum and join them! Lol….”

Thanks for saying exactly what I’ve been wanting to say.

This forum is like having the fox guard the henhouse!

    Good points Marvin.

I too believe there is a shift – but not neccesarily a shift away from the pros. There is no way I can assume becuase FCP X v.1 doesn’t have every feature that everyone wants in it, that it’s not a PRO app.

Apple is strongly marketing it as a Pro ap, and has said that many of the features not in v.1, will be out soon. Why would they add Pro features to a non-pro app? X was released with Motion and Compressor – are those non-pro apps? No way grandma is going to have any luck in Motion.

I think it’s sad so many have jumped to the conclusion that the first version of a new product, FCP X is “dead, non-pro, for amatures only, etc.”

  • Sounds like a great project to jump in with X. Good luck and keep us informed.

I’m with you, 7 is so old feelling and looking. I’m tired of it and look forward to moving on with X.

BTW – Still got (2) M100 system siting in the closet!

  • [Bob Zelin]“is there a single person on this forum making a living with FCP X ? Because if the answer is YES, then I guess that says it all. “

This is obviously a rhetorical question. I wold not assume that anyone has thrown out ALL other software that they’ve ever used and now ONLY use FCP X to make their living. The software has only been out for a bout 2 weeks.

You are hearing more and more that people are starting to phase it in as a part of their workflow when the project fits what X has to offer.

BTW – What would “YES” say?

Did you think I ment it was “working perfectly” for you or everyone else?

“…….me” was CLEARLY added for clarification. I guess it didn’t work.

[Mike Chedwick] “Anyone who says “FCP X Working Perfectly” is disingenuous and shows they are not to be taken seriously.”

Your statement is preposterous. How can you make a statement about how FCP X is working for me and what I think about it?

What I’ve learned on this forum is that if you LIKE FCP X or have anything good or positive to say about it, there is a group of so called Elite Pros that will come in a shit on your parade. Becuase it doesn’t work for them, it most certainly can’t work for anyone else.

I don’t know what to call this mentality: ignorant, arrogant, pittyfull, blind, whatever – but it’s sad.
