Effect Handling for the Blackmagic 4:4:4 codec may need to be set for Decklink instead of Final Cut – which obviously won’t work if you don’t have the card.
This is all very interesting. I had no idea Final Cut Studio apps didn’t render in 10-bit. Maybe you should just resize in After Effects or Shake. That said, I would be shocked if Motion did not handle 10-bit properly.

Use the Blackmagic codec in Final Cut and “Export to Quicktime Movie” which does not re-render anything. You can use Blackmagic Framelink instead of GlueTools to convert to and from DPX files.

Then I could convert with shake the blackmagic to dpx…”Just do this then. There’s nothing wrong with the Blackmagic codec. It functions exactly the same as the AJA codec.
I must say, you’re proclaiming a lot of things I never knew about that are troubling to hear:
1) Compressor doesn’t process in 10-bit color, even when it says it does.
2). AJA codecs can not co-exist with Sheer codecs.
3). “Export using Quicktime conversion” will not process in 10-bit.
Could you explain where you got this information. This is important to know if it’s true or not. Thanks.
Also, why do you feel you need to use Compressor instead of “Quicktime Conversion”?

Why don’t you make a custom FCP sequence that uses the Sheer codec. Set video rendering to RGB. Then you can “Export Quicktime Movie” and it won’t re-render anything.
Wouldn’t that work?

Here’s a trick I tried a while back. I think it worked (not sure).
While the clip is capturing, go into your Capture Scratch folder and copy the Quicktime media file to another folder (copy, not move). So when you abort the capture, the copy you just made is still available for you to import into FCP.
I don’t remember if this works or not. The QT file may or may not be playable. Worth trying though.

One warning. You cannot use Color if you create multiclips. It just won’t work.
Even if you uncollapse them, copy and paste the clips into a new sequence in a new project, it still remembers they used to be multiclips and will not work properly with Color.

You don’t need to make subclips. It’s simple, all you need is your new footage to have the same timecode as the old footage. If it already does, then great. If not, you can use “Modify Timecode” and change the TC of the new footage to match whatever the Timecode of the old footage is. Once the timecode is the same for both, you can reconnect to the new footage.

Hold up. That’s an incredible amount of work to go through when you don’t even know if QT 7.5.1 is the problem. And it probably isn’t.
Seriously try capturing it with Premiere. This is part of troubleshooting. If it works, then you know it’s a FCP problem. If it doesn’t work, then it’s probably a setting on your deck.
