I’d like to know why. I’m curious like that. A small price to pay for advice. Does this involve a projector with a custom lens or something?
To answer the question. You can’t do it in Color. You can do it in Final Cut, Quicktime Pro, Compressor, After Effects, or numerous other apps. Each app has a different way to control size and aspect. After Effects is probably the easiest. Final Cut is the hardest. There is no preset for 15×9 anywhere since there are no 15×9 TV sets.

i’m ingesting RGB from a HDSR into FCP and would like to save it in a QuickTime with a RGB-codec.”Carl, I think the solution is to capture and deliver the AJA RGB codec. AJA provides this codec free for Mac and Windows on their web site. Whoever your delivering to should be able to accept this.
EDIT: I forgot the original dilemma. Sorry. Honestly, I think you should call AJA and ask them why there’s no Easy Setup for 1080i50 RGB. It’s possible the RGB codec wasn’t designed for this frame rate. All I know is that the AJA RGB codec does a lot of strange things in order to work around the QT 8-bit RGB limit.

You’ve left out the most important part. What software/OS are you going to run? How do you plan to turn that hardware into SAN or NAS storage? What are your client machines (Mac I assume)?
Finding cheap hardware that looks good on paper is easy. Turning it into a SAN is not.

Go into sequence settings, video processing. Change it to “Always render in RGB.” That may be the problem.

No, it has to be RAIDed still. What I was saying is that it’s a matter of bandwidth. The SATA speed is just bandwidth. But an actual hard disk can only operate at 50-100MB/s at the most. So the 150MB/s for SATA-1 still provides plenty of overhead, thus 300MB/s SATA-II (and SAS for that matter) is totally unnecessary.
But, if you use a port multiplier, then you have five disks sharing the same 150MB/s pipe. So if you RAID them together, it will exceed the 150MB/s threshold, thus you’d want SATA-II for this type of situation.
Long explanation short, SATA-II over SATA-I does nothing for you unless you have PM.

It’s not really a big deal since no single hard drive is faster than 1.0gbps anyways. The 3gbps standard of SATA II is really for future potential. The only good it does now is if you use a port multiplier where multiple disks share a single port.

I’ve since learned a lot more about this thing.
First off, the REC 709 preset is wrong. I got in contact with someone and there I’m supposed to get some kind of firmware update that fixes this. The other presets are fine and Adobe sRGB is supposedly identical to 709 anyways.
Another problem is that the YUV mode is in fact not suitable for color grading out of the box. This thing was designed for RGB signals only. So one would have to use a Blackmagic HD-Link, not just a basic SDI to DVI converter that passes along YUV 4:2:2. The good thing is the HD-Link gives you a blue-only option and you can load custom LUTs. The bad news is there’s no deinterlacing and no scaling (except the option to show SD at 2x).
