September 28, 2006 at 5:19 pm in reply to: BMD 5.7 with XP x64 – works with greater than 3GB ram?I’m in the same boat. I had to take my Decklink HD card out of my system alltogether as I didn’t want to drop a 64-bit Quad with 10GB down to 2GB. So now it’s just sitting on the shelf waiting for the happy day when the new driver comes out.
Luke what about the 64-bit/Quicktime issue? Will that affect Decklink’s performance under Windows 64-bit? Quicktime works fine right now after having removed one of the Windows Security patches but I’ve heard that it’s actually still running in 32-bit mode.

That’s really strange. I’ve been using Nucleo ever since it’s release on a Decklink system and the performance is pretty much as advertised. I hope those new drivers come out soon. I now have a Decklink HD Extreme card sitting in it’s box on a shelf doing absolutely nothing.

Hey Andrew, David Spoelstra replied to my support request email by telling me to remove all my extra RAM and only use 3GB. Well, I removed the RAM, re-booted and then the drivers installed just fine. Of course the minute I re-installed the RAM the system blue screened. I have 3 systems in my shop. One uses a Decklink Extreme and I love it. No complaints at all. The Quad was built following the specs on the Black Magic site with the intent of using this system as a graphics system and an HD cutting system (just like the other box except that it’s standard Def). I use Nucleo Pro with After Effects which takes advantage of as much RAM as you give it so the Quad has 10GB of RAM (which is why I need 64-bit). Quicktime 7 works great under Windows 64-bit as long as you un-install the security patch that Windows installed some time ago. I’ve been using it without any problems. I read in the tech doc that you guys are working on a driver that will support more than 3 GB of RAM. As I asked David, do you guys (Black Magic design) have any idea when these drivers might be released?

Hey guys, txs for the replies. In the end I used the method Jonathan described (which I had setup just before typing out the first post). I would still like to know why it’s happening though. Matt are you saying that the noise is caused by spill? If so that’s very strange because there is no spill on the part of the clip that’s now showing noise. The actor is actually in front of a hanging screen (green) so there is no spill in front of her. Is Keylight automatically applying some sort of spill suppression which is causing the noise?

Unfortunately this is an AE7 thing. There were a few screams about it when AE7 first came out. You can probably still find the posts in the archives.

I’m going to be sending an email to support about this but I thought I would add my own unique problem here. When I select Decklink Audio, I don’t get sound (ie, no meters) but if if I select Premiere Pro Windows Sound the audio is fine. This just started hapening to me on Thursday and now I can’t seem to fix it. Running the latest drivers 5.4.2. It’s a real nightmare as I had to deliver something to a client his morning and had to explain why I couldn’t because my audio drivers “all of a sudden” stopped working. I really don’t get it. The funny thing is that this first started happening when I used a Live link AE comp in my PPRO workspace. Now it doesn’t matter what I try. I’ve tried completely fresh workspaces and the problem is still the same.

That did it! Thanks Kristian. It had been about a week since I checked for an update.
