[Charlie Austin] “And working in it sucks the life out of me.”

Exactly. I have been cutting some on CS6 and unless the cloud version is sooo much better (cue Aindreas), it feels like work….thanks, I’ll pass unless the pay is good. 😉

  • [Charlie Austin] “It’s good to have Aindreas back though. :-)”

Indeed. Even though this is a helluva reach!

[TImothy Auld] “I don’t think there is a single editor out there who will refuse to use FCPX. If someone offered me a good job and using FCPX was a deal breaker then I would accept in a second.”

Exactly. Which is why I learned Premiere. I think the editing experience on PP is solidly “meh”, but there are jobs out there to be had on it. God, we editors are so easy…. 😉

And they are going to build electric cars! Oh, wait….

  • I think Adobe will kill Premiere and sell the rest to Avid.

Since it’s on the web, it must be true….

[Bret Williams] “any edit that’s anything more than raw video cuts is kind of useless.”

    Michael –

Was your FCP7 edit just “raw” video cuts? Seems to be a differing of opinions. I have not used the product so therefore curious in case the time comes I need to. Thanks in advance.

[Andrew Kimery] “15 years later Avid knowledge is still relevant”

    In some markets…

The point was more about attitude and market-share. Take that kind of attitude (“we’re the industry standard….) and it could come back and bite you in the ass….

[Dennis Radeke] “It is after all the de facto standard image editor and for good reason.”

I think I heard Avid folks taking this approach…right before FCP3….

  • [kai hattermann] ” is there any chance to optimize just a selection of a clip?”

I am not sure on that….someone with a higher pay-grade than mine can answer.

But remember in FCPX you can select multiple parts of a clip to import (which is a VERY nice feature, indeed). With that, you can pick just the parts you need of that long clip and import just that part or parts. Saves storage space and makes your life easier in the edit, not having to scrub through all the un-needed footage. And you are still native, so it avoids the transcode and the large Pro-Res files sizes.
