I’m thinking that I need to start a blog that can become sort of a clearing house of information on newsrooms using Final Cut.

We use 3M “art tape” in 1/4″ wide rolls and fine point Sharpie markers. The “Art Tape” is a paper tape that is much thicker than regular masking tape, it’s adhesive isn’t as strong and doesn’t get gooey over time. I’ve not heard of any problems with this, and we’ve been using DVC-PRO for about 7 years.

Does anyone else see the irony of us not recommending the Quadro after years of people putting down the Mac because we didn’t have “workstation class” graphics cards? 🙂
The drivers that run the card have just as much importance as the cards themselves. The Quadro probably does have very specific advantages over the 7800GT. Motion probably isn’t affected by them. I would bet that a dedicated 3D application would be a better match for the Quadro… Just a guess.

How about resetting the computer’s SMU, or System Management Unit? The SMU is analogous to the PMU, or Power Management Unit of earlier systems.
Just a thought anyway.

Ok then, back to what Walter was asking; What output settings do you have for the Kona Control Panel? Are you feeding a signal to the input? Is it set for passthrough (EE), or desktop? We’ll need more information.

No, 720×540 is not a supported resolution anywhere except inside of Photoshop, After Effects or any other software where you want to work in square pixels, but in a resolution close to SD. (It’s so much fun trying to explain pixel aspect to the uninitiated.) 720×540 is important when you are dealing with software that doesn’t understand pixel aspect to begin with. At one time, that was Photoshop and After Effects.

I’m on my second Dell 2405. The first had some really annoying dead pixels that flickered at different times. The replacement has no dead pixels, but when it’s shut off, the display emmits a very high pitch squeal, or tone. It’s not loud, but it’s noticable. My solution is to just leave it on and let it go into standby mode where it doesn’t make that sound.

Thanks for the link to the OnOne website. I downloaded the demo and did some tests on upresing a SD video image. It has some interesting and nice image qualities. Some detail is enhanced well, like the white coller of a shirt and the pupil of an eye. It does seem to over enhance some DV 4:1:1 chroma sampling. Now that I know that, it’s an easy workaround to use LAB color mode and blur the chroma a tad.
I wasn’t aware that the software was still around. It was 8 or 9 years ago that I first heard about it.
