    It’s Valentine on a snowy day time.
    I hope you guys have better snowflakes than mine. I’ve been precomposing the after effect mirror
    filter.

    i would make a layer of shapes in illustrator to look like one branch of a snowflake. copy and rotate that layer of shape 6 times. you get some really cool snowflakes.

    Robyn’s solution is a good one for better control.

    This is an EZ hack I figured out last winter. The results are respectable:
    In Illustrator make a star with star tool and apply zigzag filter.

    A decent star to start would have around 8 radials and a small radius.
    In zigzag, try both smooth and corner points. Each gives unique results.
