    Sometimes turning off Firewire preview fixes this for me. Is there any way to get the firewire preview to sync with the mirrored computer display? AE7 seems to behave quite differently from 6.5… and not in a good way.

    Sony DME? How about a GVG Kaleidoscope DPM-1 emulator? Now *that* would be cool.:)

  • There is a way, but it involves editing the smb.conf file (//etc/smb.conf)
    I have the O’Rielly book on Samba that better explains how to add an entry for another share point, but I don’t have it with me right now. I’m sure that there is some free info available on the net as well.

    If you just look at the file, you might be able to figure out how it works.

    The only downside is that, unless you back up the file, OS upgrades often overwrite the file.

    Thanks for the note Tony! I’ve considered that as a solution, but I already have several years of previous backups and a few from this year. Perhaps when the next year rolls around, I’ll make the change. Or perhaps I’ll just upgrade Toast. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the note. It’s what I was afraid of. 🙂

    MSP == Media Suite Pro
    Perhaps that is what the ABVB board was used for. Google it.

    I have no idea if a NuBus ABVB will show up as a TrueVision card or not… I’ve got a NuVista+ sitting here that might work for you outside of an Avid. I think the ABVB had a custom daughter card with a bunch of C-Cubed Codec chips on it… Would probably need Avid Media Composer software to run.

    Avid MC1000 was my first NLE. I still have a soft spot for it… even if it was NuBus based. 🙂

    *Sarcasm Alert* Yeah, right away I want to help you out. Perhaps you could try starting out on a more positive note next time.

    I heard a complaint from my brother that two 23″ Cinemas was just too wide with a lot of back and forth motion. I went with a single 30″ for our systems at work. So far it’s working out fine.

  • Last year, I bought a Quad G5 with the stock memory. I did a little research and bought some Geil brand DDR2 memory from Newegg.com. The first 2 gigs worked perfectly first alone, and then with the stock “half gig”. I then ordered another 2 gigs from the same store and I’m sitting pretty with 4.5 GB.

    Yes, if there are problems, you should take out the 3rd party memory and do the hardware tests. If the problems persist, and you decide to take the machine to the Apple store, they don’t have to know about the 3rd party memory. If you have done the due diligence and tested without 3rd party memory, I personally think you are in the clear. I’ve not personally heard of a problem where 3rd party memory had damaged a computer. I don’t doubt that it has happened, but I don’t think it is a common problem.
