The Affinity was almost doomed from the start. After Accom bought Scitex Digital Video, they tried to ramp-up and bring out a knock-out system, but they ran out of money and were laying off people around 2001. There were plans to have a version of Affinity on Windows NT. That would have probably been a better system than the one based on our beloved classic Mac OS. My guess it that it would have taken too much money or time to port over all of the technology to a new platform. Even after I brought up all of the issues with Accom, the company I work for bought the Affinty anyway.
The assets of Accom were transfered to a new company named Abekas… Not quite the same Abekas of yesteryear. It does have the man Junaid Sheikh behind it. One of the founders of the original Abekas.He was also at Ampex before that. There are other things that make him famous. I had the opportunity to meet him at NAB this past year.

I like you came from a liner, tape editing background. The first computer editor I used was a CMX Edge! I saw the unveiling of the Immix Cube in `94 and was intrigued. It wasn’t until `96 that I was running an Avid MC1000. I later ended up at a TV station where I had to use Cubes, but I never had that fondness for the workspace. 🙂 My solution was to just move my clips to an unused track. I always liked that because the clips would keep their relation to one another. The workspace as I saw it was problematic. I do appreciate the more free-form nature of the Immix. I later worked on the Accom Affinity. Ack! What a mess that became for us. I know it’s strong points, but we had a lot of problems with ours.
We recently moved to a 8-core MacPro with FCP Studio 2.

I work in a broadcast TV station. The Avid products we own and use are MediaStream servers for program and commercial playback and a Thunder HD clip player. This announcement I’m sure is making the management a bit concerned. If Avid wanted to narrow the focus of their NAB presence to just broadcast related hardware like servers and newsroom systems, then I could appreciate that, but this would make we wary of their commitment to the future of those products. The fact that our chief engineer came all the way to the other side of the building to let me know the news I think says something.

I had this same problem with DV50 and an AJ-SD93. I actually found the answer here on the COW in the archives.
My solution was to batch capture (just one large clip in my case) instead of “Capture Now”. For some reason, actually marking the in and out points for the clip forced FCP to use the correct sample rate for the clip.
I would bet you that either way, the capture was just fine. Just something got screwed-up in the metadata of the file that told Quicktime the wrong sample rate.
Is there a utility out there to edit Quicktime metadata without changing the data contents of the file? Like pixel aspect data or anamorphic?

My brother was working on a DS Nitris a little over a year ago. He talked to Avid at an NAB about bug fixes a couple of years ago. He was told that money was being spent on other things and some of the big bugs (i.e. 3D DVE) would not be taken care of right away. He made the decision to move on to another system. In the past couple of years, I’ve heard about the political struggle between the DS folks and the Avid folks. Guess who won?
BTW, My first NLE was an Avid MC1000 with a NuBus ABVB. I still miss that thing. 🙂

I had a GVG-300 with a Kaleidoscope, so Pfffftttttttt. 🙂
I actually used an Abekas A53D with Warp on a GVG-200. It was no Kaleidoscope, but still very cool. 🙂

I’ve often had this same issue with Photoshop 7. In fact, I found your message because I was doing a Google search on this very problem. I was having the error when saving to an internal RAID that was connected to the motherboard ATA channels of a G4. I’m now having the same problem when saving to a G-Raid attached to a PCI FireWire-800 card. I can however save to boot drive.
I don’t think I’ve had this problem with CS2… yet.

Well, you could just undock all of the windows.
It’s not perfect, but better than what came before.

You could just turn off field order interpretation and just shift the clip up or down exactly one pixel.
