The producer will rewrite the story to make it longer and fill more time. The editor will then take the 15 seconds of VO used earlier that day, and loop it seven or eight times.

One thing to consider is, will you want a support contract? Or, with the money saved, you just buy two of the BMDs?
The BlackMagic line of switchers are from the former Echolab. I don’t know any users personally, but I do know of a TV station group that uses BlackMagic routers in their facilities. They seem happy.

I’m usually just confused about everything.
Most of my work is done in After Effects. I like to use FCPX to organize the output and marry the final audio track to the video. The share feature is great for getting stuff up to Vimeo for clients, but why-oh-why can you not select more than one to export. At least in Legacy you could export multiple sequences at once. Great for episodic bag-and-tag for a local station.Hope Apple is looking at your list.

First thing I would do (if you haven’t yet) would be the parameter RAM reset. At boot, hold down +P+R.
Otherwise, it sounds like the system drive went bye-bye.
Also, take that system drive from the Xserve and see if is readable on another system. I don’t even know what the Xserve has… ATA? SATA?
Like Bob says, it’s old tech. If you have to get it running to keep going, good luck, but the new stuff should be much better.

You might be looking at the DV footage through whatever deinterlacing is in Quicktime player? If you play the footage back out to a SD broadcast monitor, it would probably look like your memory of it. There are also some higher quality deinterlace plugins out there. At least that’s been my experience.

I ran into a similar issue to this with 10.3.3. I was leaving imported files in place instead of copying them into the project. The video files would automagically refresh when I updated them in external apps, but the audio I exported out of Audition wasn’t changing. Finally I emptied the trash and the new file would then work. Seems like an odd oversight when other parts seems to play well together.

Kind of depends on the medium for the sculptor. If you are using some Roma Plastilina, you can add and take away as much material as you like. If you are chiseling away at a block of marble, your decisions are measured and careful to not take away too much, or make a move that fractures the entire slab.
When I was editing with videotape, it was more like the marble slab. With an NLE, it’s a little more like the Roma Plastilina. And by that, I mean, one generates a lot of dust, the other is soft and oily. – jk

That seems similar to what Walter Murch has talked about when shuttling through a reel on a Steenbeck. One interesting point he made was, when you shuttle through a reel, however fast, you are still seeing every frame. I don’t know if any NLE can claim that. 🙂
