I’m a user of After Effects as well and wonder when the two programs will merge into one – the two apps are starting to overlap in capabilities. There are some things I do in After Effects, on a single, high res frame, apply effects and save to be dropped into a photoshop composition for print work.

Yes, they are isolating the moving objects (masking them), and leaving a still frame under that.

Make one adjustment layer above all of your 60 layers. Turn off all layers except the adjustment layer, then turn on each layer one by one and save in your desired format for your animation.

Anything Windows 7 with tons of RAM and the latest processor (2600 Sandy Bridge) plus a nice video card will be good. Or, a nice Mac Book Pro loaded with RAM if you got the cash! 🙂

there are a couple ways i mask things – sometimes with the lasso tool, but mostly with the pen tool. if you use the pen tool, once you’ve completed your path, in the path palette, select the icon to convert the path to a selection (load path as a selection). at this point you can choose to feather your selection – depending on the situation this feather will vary – I tend to feather .5px – 1px depending on the size of the original image. then create your mask on that layer by selecting the mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette.

a gif made from a sequence of images from a video clip. you can import video into the latest versions of photoshop.

you need to clip out the logo so there’s transparency – do you know how to mask something in Photoshop?
Once you’ve masked the logo, save it as a Photoshop file (.psd), or save it as a 24/bit Targa file (.tga). Also, make sure you’re editing in Photoshop in RGB color space.
