hey thanks for the response and concern. FCP 7 will be professionally reinstalled and will stay in 10.9.5 for now.
I will export XMLs beforehand as well. And will slowly integrate those few particular ongoing projects into Premier, once I get the tower working better within Premier. (trying to relieve the problem of mp4/ AVCHD not scrubbing smoothly in the timeline and general sluggishness . The premier experience is not even close to as solid and fast as I can work in FCP so the transition has been slow) -
thx. yeah, just trying to keep FCP viable for old projects that still get modified for a few clients. And when I want to cut something fast, since premier is not working well on my machine (hence the attempt to upgrade components in the mac pro)
I hope they can leave the plug-ins folder alone altogether and perhaps they will still work on the new install. -

I’m having a very similar problem and have spent a lot of time looking for answers online.
(the other response on the thread may have worked for that guy, but not our issue i think).
Have you found any resolution? This really makes editing not fun.

Thanks for the advice. I had already bought and downloaded the Lion update. Just realized that if I do the partition route, Lion partition will be a clean slate and I will have to install and copy over tons of stuff, and I don’t even have enough space left on boot drive to fit these duplicates. I don’t want to have it on an external drive.
Looks like I will have to take the slight risk of doing a regular update to Lion, and if FCP 7 doesn’t work, I’ll have to wipe clean and find a way to go back to Snow Leopard.
Guess once I get Adobe CC and learn Premier I can catch up and be on Mavericks.any other thoughts welcome.

this is 960×540 H.264 compressed footage that i’m turning back into Pro Res 422 so I can use within the new project.
So i’m thinking it would be best to knock down the 1080 footage so I can edit all at 540.
Surprised, that there isn’t a standard workflow when integrating various sized footage, with the baseline not being a standard sequence size.
Would love to figure out a flow that works well, without a lot of timeline rendering.thx for your help.

I’d be shooting AVC intra and converting to Pro Res 422. Any ideas for an easy work around?
Again, I want to take those 1080 files and be able to use with 540 assets, and then output a 960×540 for the web.scott

thanks for the reply and explanation. Since this is just going out to flv and the combing effect is still there in the flv, then shooting 24p in DVCpro50 is useless for me. Not sure why 30p is not causing any problems but I’ll have to go that route. Still feel like I should be able to shoot at 24p and be able to export QT’s and flv’s for viewing on the web without that nasty interlacing effect.
any other ideas out there before i give up on 24p in DVCpro HD for the web.
I’ll test a DVD on a TV to see if that at least works.scott

i duplicated the DV sequence. I changed the compression of the sequence to prores 422. I exported a 10 second clip. I opened the QT video to check and it was a pro res file.
I exported the same 10 seconds out of the dv sequence.
I dropped them both in Media encoder, same settings. Compared the outputs many times it was clear that the pro-res one was not as good. Artifacting around the titles. These titles were pretty big in frame.I just ran another test, however, with a different section where the titles are smaller. And the pro res is much better once turned to flv.
I think in the long run if going to final deliver as a flv, I will take this route to make sure titles are a bit better. Glad I ran another test. thanks
