Thanks for your response! The only effect I’m looking to replicate is the shot where he first touches the mirror and pulls off the gloopy material so these tutorials look promising, thank you.

Thank you for your swift replies.

It is only the very start of the clip I wish to replicate, just the one shot, sorry for not being more explicit. The ripple on the mirror, followed by the gloopy material stuck to the hand, but not the pinging back and wavey reflection or anything afterwards.

After a series of tests, my best results so far have been to film the hand from two angles simultaneously, one acting as the mirror, and a clean plate. I then comped the reflected hand into the mirror, roto’d the non mirrored hand and added the ripple on the mirror. This was all in an attempt to have my hand actually pass through and interact with the mirror.

I’ll check out the examples provided for the ripple effects, they seem promising, but if there is anything else you can add to help, or anything you need further described, please say. Thanks again,

    Scott.

Okay this sounds promising, what is the layer transparency? I only have one layer active, which is the video layer i have drawn on to.

hey, thanks again for the response. following your instructions i can create an alpha layer that effectively has inverted the black and white. so i have a white image drawn on black now. Is this how it should look? or do i need to invert the selection of pixels before i create a new channel with them? Also, the layer im taking the pixels from is a video layer & so once i create this new alpha channel, i can only see the first frames worth of image – i lose the rest. any ideas? Thanks.

    Thanks for the swift reply!

Miscommunication there sorry, i meant the alpha channel, not layers. But yeah; still exports black stills. The type of roto i’m trying to achieve is unachievable through ae unfortunately. I just want to export it with an alpha channel, like i can from after effects, but don’t know how?

  • Unfortunately it reads as 0KB, it won’t even playback on the camera now, tried a couple of recovery program demos as well, but no luck! Thanks for trying.
