Bryson?

Ok, I know you probably have but just recheck that the role is not part of the system group. I did an ‘audit’ of the permission settings before I set a system live and only found one bug with event markers being locked and still being editable (which will be fixed in 10.0.3. according to Rolf). I did not find an issue with clip deletion at the catDv level.
Can you post the user permissions screen shot?

June 3, 2013 at 6:11 pm in reply to: Apple Compressor. H264 50P the same filesize as 25P from 50i Source.I felt the quality hit would be a factor too when I theorized the maths, but like with anything compression related, seeing is believing. I round tripped some test files and on a broadcast monitor I was hard pressed to notice a significant loss. Certainly not anywhere near the loss of loosing the temporal motion..
Thanks for the discussion, it’s good to talk this one over with others.

June 3, 2013 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Apple Compressor. H264 50P the same filesize as 25P from 50i Source.I see where you are coming from with the target data rate and on that front you are absolutely correct. In regards to doing the same encode to a predefined codec, such as prores 50i to 50p this will double the file size. Can you explain the difference here in the same terms?
I guess it’s because we cannot choose a data rate as that is predefined by the codec standards. So loosely speaking 50p will always be double 50i.
Do you see any downsides of converting 50i (source) to 50p h264 for FTP transfer? The useful aspect is that we retain temporal motion and have a low fielsize to transfer. We can then convert this back to 50i for broadcast with very good results. I see news agencies transferring video from 50i to 25p all day and I really question it as the none thing broadcasters like is to maintain the fluid motion. Seeing as the target bitrate is maintained and by eye the quality is excellent I see little reason to not do this.
It’s all workflows, but I am surprised by the way many broadcasters are dealing with this.
Much appreciated.

Hey Bret, that solved it. I had them on a tab and not viable but I guess still active.
Really appreciate this one.. Saved me pulling my hair out for a few more hours!

This can be difficult, but a much simpler way is to simply set the ftp folder to sync to local storage using any number of FTP client apps. Check out YummyFTP. It has a very cheap watcher app.
File hits FTP.
FTP Watcher downloads the file to Local Folder.
Worker queries Local Folder..It ads another step, but it’s much easier to troubleshoot this way.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the portal trial. I think everyone is in a transitional period to Adobe!
