FTP site as watchfolder
Posted by Deleted User on May 31, 2013 at 9:18 pmIs it possible to have CatDV Pro to monitor a ftp site folder and then import any new submissions? If so, care to share how?

June 1, 2013 at 6:27 amIt’s possible but can be problematic unless you’re hosting the ftp yourself on your own network. (The best way to do it imho. Your PC or Mac has the storage mounted on your network and it all works way better.)
There are a few ways to mount an ftp server to a computer. (Google that, there are several ways.) The main issue is refreshing the connection. FTP can be flaky. But if you have to, you can try it but I don’t know that you can rely on it for a solid workflow.
We’ve always either had the ftp on a local box or used Aspera or one of our web forms that allows the sender to send files in directly.
If you have full access to the ftp server you can also run a cron job to push the files to your server with curl, if you don’t want the client to be able to hit your server directly.
Hope some of this helps you.

June 1, 2013 at 1:20 pmThis can be difficult, but a much simpler way is to simply set the ftp folder to sync to local storage using any number of FTP client apps. Check out YummyFTP. It has a very cheap watcher app.
File hits FTP.
FTP Watcher downloads the file to Local Folder.
Worker queries Local Folder..It ads another step, but it’s much easier to troubleshoot this way.
