M-audio make some reasonable audio interfaces, as does Presonus. Vegas is passable as a multitrack audio recorder, if you are talking about up to like 10-15 tracks after that I would use something more pro like Cubase, Sonar, Pro-tools, etc and create “stems” (which are basically subgroups) and import them into Vegas. I do 48 track audio with plays and shows plus 5-6 cams, trying to do it all in Vegas is a nightmare and if you are multicam-ing you will continually loose preview quality as you do more audio. It has been this way for me since version 8. So if you are trying to do more than a few tracks fine, otherwise, use something else is my recommendation.

I went with the Drift HD170. It has a small LCD screen, HD output (for other uses) and with the shape, I should be able to mount on the greyhound’s muzzle. The cost was better (got it on closeout at a store going under), and it has low light mode which will help in other shooting situations, and is the only one with a real tripod attachment (1/4″ thread!). Also the lens is movable so even if the unit is at an odd angle, you can adjust it to be level… Here is hoping!

  • Seems doable…I have split parts in Vegas and then re-seemed them before…I guess it would also depend on what the person you are sending it to is doing and also if they are Vegas users…

  • I hear ya, but there are not really re-usable!! I have 3 small drives for clients and have been using them for like 2-3 years….often I will buy one for the client as an expense to them, then THEY get to archive their files and are responsible to store and NOT loose them. I often will hold onto the drive as well if they use me often for their video needs…just a couple thoughts!

    Good luck!

  • I send small 2.5 usb 2 drives, they are dirt cheap and can be sent 2-3 priority for dirt cheap..some drives as Walmart are less than $50….just a thought!
    Good Luck

Thanks guys! I have been doing a ton of research and also found the Drift Stealth HD, I think I may go with that due to it coming with a built in LCD screen, price, the ability to adjust exposure, better low light and also component out. The GoPro footage looks a bit washed out on some of the tests of all 3, and also is boxy shaped vs the other two, I think that may be an issue on a dog! But any input from others as well is really appreciated!

  • Did you check the external drive?

  • On PC there is a Blackmagic panel that is hard to find that allows you to select what the inputs and outputs you are using should be. I do not know if that is on a Mac, but maybe that is the issue…just a thought!
    Good luck!

You can also use Media Express that comes with the BM cards…that works well, however it requires limited formats that are uncompressed, so be aware the file sizes are nuts!

One reason I got the Intensity Pro instead of the Shuttle, they are ALMOST identical….
