OT: Some way to cut and re-stich AVCHD or .avi files?
OT: I have a volunteer who wants to help me edit…two time zones away. The AVCHD files are 20GB each, which is too big to fit on a DVD (and I don’t have Blu-ray).
Is there some easy, fool-proof way to cut the AVCHD files into smaller pieces so I can burn them to DVD, and then have him “re-stitch” them back together on his end?
Or is the only solution either to buy a Blu-ray player, or else mail him a hard drive?

Yahoo instant messenger lets you drop large files on the chat window, peer to peer. No file size limit.

Google file splitter, I had it once and it split avis without rendering.

I send small 2.5 usb 2 drives, they are dirt cheap and can be sent 2-3 priority for dirt cheap..some drives as Walmart are less than $50….just a thought!

I hear ya, but there are not really re-usable!! I have 3 small drives for clients and have been using them for like 2-3 years….often I will buy one for the client as an expense to them, then THEY get to archive their files and are responsible to store and NOT loose them. I often will hold onto the drive as well if they use me often for their video needs…just a couple thoughts!

Good point.
Hey, would it work just to split the video in Vegas, and then render back to AVCHD?
It is a lecture format. Could I split it at a point where there is no audio, and we would be bringing a slide in on screen?
Or would that drop/lose a frame, and throw the external .wav audio all out of synch?

Seems doable…I have split parts in Vegas and then re-seemed them before…I guess it would also depend on what the person you are sending it to is doing and also if they are Vegas users…

I’ve heard of converting the files to a more compact format, doing all your edits using these and then replacing the “compact” format with the original media.
I’m starting to use AVCHD with my new camera and came across an article describing this for those whose PCs can’t keep up while editing AVCHD. Perhaps this solution could be adapted here.
just a thought.

My new Vaio i7 laptop edits the AVCHD files with ease. There are several ways to get the full 20 gig files back and forth without splitting and stiching. LIke I stated Yahoo instant messenger and Team Viewer (both free) have the ability to tranfer large files like that. Hope this helps, Danny Hays
