https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/977114#977231Two odd things, Blackmagic ATEM records to 1920×1088 instead of 1080, and when I bring it into Vegas, it plays back at lower frame rates. Not very user friendly for editing.
I tried EZ Encoder lossless, and it works/edits better, but Vegas than sees it as non-standard (1920×1088), where as it see the original file as 1920×1080…I know John said something about flags in the metadata and Vegas not having all it needs for using the MOV wrapped in a MP4 properly, so I don’t understand why the original file is seen as standard 1080p yet the lossless version is seen as 1088.
Cineform is part of GoPro now, at least from my searching, and that program doesn’t like the files either, and I don’t understand how to use Avidemux for re-encoding to another file format.
I also use another HD hardware encoder called Avermedia and the footage is ALMOST as good, but I would like to resolve the ATEM issue if possible.
My results with Handbrake (and I use it a TON), are diminished video quality, at least for me, unacceptable at this stage in editing..And as of course, after 2 emails and no reply from Blackmagic, I don’ think they are interested in the problem.
Thanks again so much for all your help!!

Thanks Dave,
I use handbrake all the time, but the encoders are more for smaller size than quality.Xavier (Scott) Francis

I would say using a gate may help as well. Set it to where it opens when the speaking occurs and closes when there is just noise. A compressor reduces the dynamic range of the audio, so compression may actually increase the noise level, this is without hearing the sound itself of course….
I would use a combination of gate and noise reduction plus EQ, a lot of times you can EQ out really low and hi sounds using a hi and low pass filer..
Good luck!!

Yes FW is not exclusive to cameras. I have a Presonus sound card that uses this, there are/were tons of FW Hard drives over the years as well as other peripherals…

I have found that SVP doesn’t always play nice when trying to fly in from FW. I have actually had to use SVP9 to get it to work and when I open to capture video nothing is seen.
Not sure why, but this has been a problem for me since SVP10…
Good luck!

June 11, 2014 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Forgive the repeat, still looking for GPU understanding for preview only…Thanks John,
I have consistently checked the AMD vs Intel over the years and am aware of the lower speeds, but in comparison they are not as bad as one thinks. There top of the line usually matches a series prior of Intel. I have wanted to switch over, but could not until recently.
As far as 60p, for me to get down to a 30p rate on my cameras (Canon G30/XA20) I would have to go down to 17mbps vs 35 mbps on either the MP4 or AVCHD formats. That is cutting it in half and I can see a difference. I am doing dance stuff as well and I am concerned with fast moving feet/hands and so forth.
Is it worth dropping my mbps that far? I have always gone with (in audio or video) shoot/record the highest you can at the beginning and if deliver lower you are at least starting with the best. Maybe that adage is not in line with this..Again, thanks for all the input.
