Actually I will be using 2 1080p MONITORS and a 39″ 4k “TV” if you will. I like to watch on something that would actually play what I am producing.
I know that there are differences between the two, but in my understanding, they are getting closer. However, I will have the 39″ farther away than the others when editing…approximately 8′.

I would agree with all the above suggestions. I too, have had this happen and with a deadline. I have used sections via time (like John mentions) or also sections that are reasonable in length that will make seeming them together in the next Veg file easy as well. If your project is not breakable into sections or segments I would go with the 5 min rule.

That may work for Vegas, but I need this to be seamed together OUTSIDE of Vegas as well. I have need for a solid video clip from the get go, and really don’t want to re-render anything…

Correct, however the i5 iMacs are fairly slow as well with 7200RPM drives…These all are with Yosemite….which is interesting as I have noticed ALL our non-SSD drives really slowing down with booting since we updated to the new OS…

I am sure part of the slowness on the Mac Mini’s is the 5400rpm issues… my Mac Mini and MBP with SSD’s are faster, however it seem Yosemite is slower to load as well in my experience….

Sorta OT, but booting my Mac Mini at work i7 2.3ghz with 8 gig Ram…59.34 seconds….

My workstation with an i7, 4790 I believe, boots in 11 seconds with my Samsung EVO SSD drive…Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

My MBP with SSD and Yosemite and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it as well, from the OS selection screen:
Yosemite – 13 seconds
Windows – 25 seconds
Just timed it….

The Macs at my church are AGONIZINGLY slow since Yosemite has been installed. Like twice as long to boot…i5 or i7’s on them, But some are 5400RMP drives too..

As far as rendering, I HAVE rendered to my desktop (SSD) with smaller projects and I would say speed may have been a TAD faster if a all…I haven’t timed it.

I have an SSD main drive (120GB)
A render to drive (1 TB, WD Blue)
3 Project Drives (3 Hitachi 3TB drives)

This is at least my experience…

SSD on the OS drive is a big improvement IMHO as well. Last 4 systems I have built have had them and when I occasionally use another system, I can really tell.

Just added one to my late 2011 MBP and it is like a new computer….especially when booting to Windows…

Thanks John,

It sees the chip/camera for the AVCHD in either the Canon or Panasonic. Neither show any other files in any format other than AVCHD. So ridiculous…..in 2014/15 with chips that can go to 512GB’s we are limited to a 4GB sized file… (facepalm)…..

Does anyone know of file joining software? One last time…

For 4k, the Panasonic shoots MP4 and MOV…that is what I am trying to work through
It does AVCHD for 1080p BUT I cannot get the higher bit rates in AVCHD….

I can try, but that doesn’t help me with the Panasonic which IS the issue, I don’t think it does AVCHD, just MP4 and Pro Res…I already have a workflow with the Canon, not the GH4….so I am back to square one…
