I just purchased an XFX Radeon R9 290 and it is INSANE!!! I have it running in a 4790 Devil’s Canyon system with an ASUS board and it handles a ton thrown at it. Best video playback I have ever had!!!
I have used, ASUS, GIGABYTE, XFX and Sapphire cards with no issues really from any of them. Be SURE to get at LEAST a 750 watt power supply with any of the newer cards and 1000 watt if you can. It really makes a difference. Also, since you have a 3 year old system, make sure the board has the PCI Express ability of the card you are getting.

I have it happening in 3 machines, laptop, i7 PC and a Mac Pro running Windows 7 Ultimate. 3 different everything (minus OS) and it still happens..

Would love to be able to edit as I used to. I now open the original file in SF, copy the audio, drop it into a new wave file, edit and then import into SVP. Tons of extra work…but it does the same job in 3 times the time!!

I have no hidden filters, or I still don’t know what you are referring too. Vegas automatically adds 3 audio FX and I remove them all each time I start a new project. (Wish I knew how to disable these being added automatically) if those are the “filter” you are referring too. I have never heard the term “filters” in regards to audio other than hi, low and bandpass filters (I have been doing audio since about ’95” As I mentioned that this happens over 3 machines with Vegas and SF on them, re-installing has in essence been done.
So, still at a loss, unless I am missing something on these two subjects..

What do you mean by “filters?” This happens from the moment I drop any media into SVP. If I just drop in a clip, right click on the audio and SF opens, the audio plays slowly and the pitch is like slow mo audio…

Be sure to enable your GPU and all the threads. Also, right click on your media and go to switches then disable resampling.
Vegas sets this automatically, I didn’t know that and once I do this my preview is MUCH better! Also, I am not sure how the speed of the Quadro 4000 is these days in comparison to newer cards. I am using an AMD 6870 for an i7 Haswell and an AMD 7950 on a 12 core mac pro in bootcamp and get decent preview on the i7 and GREAT playback on the Mac Pro
Also, you could use Avidemux to re-mux the media to a better editing format.

I use the Data import Utility to import long clips. This seams the video into on long file. Keeping the SD format will work, however if you try to name clips or use them outside of Vegas, you will have issues as there are MANY clips (all 3.97GB in length) for long shots.
For this reason I ALWAYS use Data Import Utility (there is a version 2 out that has worked great for all my Canon G10 and G30’s (I have 5). I have had not had good success with going the SD card way, just my experience….

Well, system is up and running and loving it! In my initial tests, I have been able to FINALLY FINALLY view in BEST FULL transitioning from on track to another in fades with 1080p!!!! I have wanted this for about, oh 5 years!!! 4K plays back full frame as well in BEST FULL and so forth. I haven’t rendered anything yet, but will check in when I do.
John, I would recommend the card I got. It boots fine in either OS and in Bootcamp the drivers were a little cumbersome. Neither the stock nor the Bootcamp version would see the card. However, when I downloaded the AMD Auto Detect software it saw it and installed the proper drivers in about 2 mins. I will remember that in the future. It looked like it saw the Xeon chips and had a different driver I believe.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU John!!
I really appreciate all your input over the years and this is very informative. I know in the past I questioned you using a Mac Pro, thinking it was the newer droid looking one, which can be a pain needing all sorts of adapters and not easily accessing internal parts for upgrades. Once I understood you brilliance in speaking about the older Mac Pro’s your ideas made sense and totally rock!! Having 12 cores will really be helpful and also dual OSs.
As far as the Radeon 7950 – you can an get a none Mac, but Mac EFI flashed version for about $230 on ebay. I researched that a bit all over the web and the seller has sold 50+ flashed cards and has 100% feedback. So if you are willing to go a little non-Mac in a video card…it saves you about 1/2 off a Mac version. Obviously I could us a Wondows version too, but then you don’t have the “option button” option to boot into either OS.
I will let you know how it works out. Again, really appreciate it!!
