  • I believe you can use the 3-way CC and hit the button with the black and white arrows on it.

An old saying, “If you find yourself stuck in a rut the first thing you should do is stop digging.”

I couldn’t agree more with Grinner that people skills are so very important to being a “professional” editor. Working with someone in a high stress situation and trying to gently steer them from making bad decisions is critical. Get and read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and anything by Steven Covey.

Richard thanks, (for the reply and I’ve been going through your podcast). I tried Smart Objects. I got it to kind of work. I could not get it to “take” the scaling, attributes or the cropping attributes. I will try some more today though.

Forgot. One thing I do (this is in FCP) is to create a timeline for each tape I have. I then lay in all the clips sequentially. That way if I say “where is that shot of the woman with the red coat” and red coat is not in the clip descriptor I can scan really fast through the tape timelines looking for the woman with the red coat, match frame, open my working timeline and then drop it in. I personally remember things visually way better than by words.

    [grinner] “editing aint like cookin’.
    Cooking is an additive process.”

Interesting. I’ve always said it was an additive process and not a subtractive one. Whenever I try to work subtactively I get totally lost and freaked out. I always do better to build out scenes and then figure out how the whole damn thing goes together.

Jacob, as far as I know you can’t change it. Maybe your friend used Compressor?

15 frames??? Why in the hell do you do that? You need a certain amount of pre-roll for FCP/deck to capture. Give yourself a minute. This is one of my all time pet peves with camera people when they give me no pre-roll.

By the way the little black bars are called PLUGE bars. I love that word, its great for picking up chicks. I think it is an acronym but for what I don’t know.

Turns out it was a bad FW cable. Wow, never seen that before but when he used a different cable all was completely fine. I’m just glad he thought of that before we started uninstalling and reinstalling OS, FCP, QT etc.
