I think borris has a bad tv effect.

yeah, if you’re gonna transcode stuff anyway, i would choose dnx. I’ve never really had problems with AMA (besides h264 codec, which it doesn’t seem to like), though I mainly work on promos and other short form stuff. I still like to old school “import” footage when time permits (I’m also lucky enough to have assistants who take care of that stuff over night in most cases)
good luck

I’m not sure if the transcode is the problem, but i have to ask… Why would you transcode to prores instead of dnx 145? It’s the same bit rate. Avids DNX codecs are very good.

I doubt it was intented for larger post houses. Where typically engineering is keeping tabs on everything. I think it was more designed for smaller 1 man show kind of places

[David Roth Weiss] “[Nick Toth] “There are editors outside of LA after all. :)”
Of course there are. I>
sure their are some editors in NYC… haha, couldn’t resist.
But really, The talent has nothing to do with the app. I’m sure FCPX is great, but i won’t know until a client instist on using it.
And when they do I’ll figure it out on the fly , same way I learned FCP7 and most every app i know.Scott Cumbo

You can have the Avid automaticly create all you L3rds from a text file (after you set up your template of course)

easy there tiger, when did i say avid’s business model is great or they will survive?
I’m saying the 2 companies don’t compare to each other. If HP came along and bought Avid then you can compare them side by side. but right now they are in 2 different levels of business. Apple can afford to forget about FCP and never notice the chump change they lost, where Avid has no hope if MC6 tanks and will gladly gather up all the loose change apple dropped.
and as a side note, neither of these companies send me a paycheck so i could care less if they both vanish. I’ll find some other software to use.

you can’t compare apple and avid. 2 totally different types of companies. Avid has always and continues to serve the pro/semi pro video and audio market. Apple is a computer/gadget giant that also had some pro apps and high end computers. Apple can never sell another pro app or computer again and make millions off of phones and i things. Avid will always fight for survival based on the very small nature of their clients.

David,
I’m not knocking creativecow, cause i like this site a lot. But the fact is that their are only a few avid guys who answer questions on this site. It’s always been a pretty FCP centric site. I would check out Avids user forums and you will prob get quicker responses to your avid questionsScott Cumbo
