Don’t even consider going freelance until you have at least 2 or 3 clients that will book you on a reagular basis.

are there no chance of editing at the post house you already work for? how long have you been an assistant?

are you clips 48k? make sure your clip and project sample rates match. MC defaults to 48k.

I can’t help you out with the workflow question. But if I had to guess you will probably have to import the QT that the camera produces.

creativecow is manly a FCP board. Go to the Avid forums for avid questions.

yeah, duplicate the video to track 2 and use animatte or picture in picture to isolate certain sections of the video (I like to use picture in picture when ever I can because it’s a real time effect)and tweek your lights after that.
just use real soft edges so it blends nice with the layer below.

I do it all the time in the nitris.

Or if you don’t want to invest in too much equipment, take your
project & Media to a post house and have them lay it off for you.
Will only cost you a few hours of edit time plus stock (cheaper if you bring your own stock)

No sync problems as long as you have proper referance.
But your real issue is Mojo SDI does not suport HD. It’s SD only.

The choice of computer should really be decided by which Editor you want to use. Since you seem to be more of a “do everything yourself type shop”, I would stay away from Avid. I say that as someone who makes his living on Avid and Loves Avid. Great editor, but not a great 1 stop package.

Premiere from Adobe (PC) and Final cut (mac) offer much cheaper packaged software that cover all your needs (editing, audio, advanced effects & compositing, DVD authoring) They both pretty much offer the same stuff, Though I think Adobe is a little stronger just because of photoshop. I would go with which ever platform you feel more comfortable because you gonna be spending a lot of time in front of that computer.

    good luck

I’m no mac expert, but I beleive you need Media Composer version 3.0.5 for the newest mac os.
