    Rick,

Torrey helped us add an additional 14 TBs of storage (30 TBs total) to our shared Xsans system with 9 seats. I would definately recommend Torrey and his company to help you navigate the potential missteps one might make setting up or adding to their Xsans sytem.

October 3, 2005 at 12:46 am in reply to: 40 minutes project using MacMin ?

My friend just submitted a feature length film to Sundance that they cut primarily of a power book ( 1.5GHZ) and a mac mini and a G-Raid drive. Basically the project lived on the G-raid and he connected into which ever computer was availble to him as long as it had FCP 5 on it. As the project grew to a large proportions it took considerably longer to open the project off of the mac mini and the power book as opposed to a dual G5.

August 9, 2005 at 2:20 pm in reply to: Timeline Damaged?

this has happened to me as well. I anaylzed the clips where my timeline would stop playing and discovered that if I moved one clip onto another track the remaining clip next to it automatically extended to fill the gap. This seem wrong and where the problem lies. I recut in those 2 clips and things seemed fine.

I agree with the process of backing up to tape but this is my question…

What if the client doesn’t want to spend the extra money on the tape back up. Mind you I am talking about the time during the edit not archiving afterwards. So what happens in your opinion if the drive fails and there isn’t a back up of the media. Of course there would be a back up of the project somewhere but not all the TBs of media, that would have to re loaded in. Who would be resposible for the recovery process. The facility that is owner of the machines or the client who put there faith in the machines?

Do you believe they need to sign a waiver when the decline the back up that takes liability off of the facility?

I know this is a bug in FCP 4.5. Wonder if this is fixed in FCP 5.
