I think it could be done with a simple if-else clause.
is there is a marker, emit 1 particle, if not, stay zero.but I seem not to be able to accomplish this simple expression….
please, help!

oh thank you so much! I fixed the problem now.
you learn with every project. -
thank you so much for undertaking this problem!
Indeed one expression I needed was how to change the input of 0-360 to 0-100. That helped a lot!
In the end, I ended up kinda combining your things and the settings I used so far. And like yours it is kinda offset a little bit so I tweaked some values. It’s working somehow, but surely there is a more elegant way!
Seems to be a tricky thing.Thank you very much for your advices and fast replies! I learned a lot!

thank you for the quick reply! this is great thank you!
I have another problem:
so is it possible to change the position of the value along the pie chart so that it follows the reveal of the pie chart?
i.e. you have an amount of 33%, and this number stands at the outer border of the pie chart, and the value then changes to 20%, and the whole pie chart shifts and the text follows it with it’s position, too. -
edit:
ah, sorry I got the problem. I wondered how to achieve a dark BG and white shadow, but actually the problem was simply solved by putting on the falloff of the light. so I got a white BG (and not a black one) which appears black because it is not lit by the light, it’s only brighter on the part where the light is. so it’s no white shadow on black, but black shadow on white which is the most natural thing.
i confused myself, I suppose.
but thank you anyway for your kind support! -
thank you John, for your reply!
I tried different things with the light transmission, but it doesn’t work properly with the white on black bg.
I followed your description and have one question: what do you mean with “turn off the shadows on the visible layer” in this sentence? maybe the original text layer? ->
“…change “Cast Shadows” to “Only” and turn off shadows on the visible layer”
unfortunately I am working on mac so I couldn’t open your example file.. -
thank you for the reply!
so far I tried out, but I need to collapse the text layer to still be 3D in the composition otherwise there is no shadow.Yeah, I thought about taking drop shadow as a solution but then it isn’t reactive to the light source and you have to animate the shadow direction manually. (as far as I know it’s quite difficult to link the 3D light source to the drop shadow direction property via expression.

Thank you also for all the other suggestions. But yeah, worst thing would be the built in FCP effect or QT.
I will have a look for the other suggestions you mentioned. Thank you so much, to all, so far! -
Oh yes, I tried and found out. So I started using Compressor. But good to hear, I haven’t done anything wrong!

Your suggestion is quite the thing I tried out I think.
I ended up using particular leafes for bg and replace the ones in the fg with photo material which looks much more natural. I wiggle each layer of leafes individually.. thousands of layers, parents and expressions.
