Well i don’t know about NTSC vs PAL but I can tell you that I have one and I cannot get a timecode out of my clips. I was told that I would be able to (that’s why I bought it) but the manual does not mention timecode and even Canon Tech Support said you cannot get timecode out of this camera unless you use some third party software.

Hope this helps in your buying process.

BTW – if anyone has this camera and IS able to get timecode off each clip please let me know how. Either in this thread or email me ssp@ssptv.com The way I tried to do it was download all the clips from the camera to my Final Cut and do a “Log and Tranfer” into a project.
If there’s another way, i am interested.

Sorry to change the topic Rob but this might help you too. 🙂

    TIA

    Sam

    Thanks Brendan,

I was just checking if anyone had already gone through the lawyer process and came up with a universally accepted disclaimer

Hopefully Stephen has such a thing 🙂 (Fingers Crossed + Toes)

    Thanks Nate and John,

The “save” function was the culprit.

All these days of looking into the black and white viewfinder. It was so 2007 🙂

So when you say FCE does not support DVCPROHD, does that include all the DVCPRO flavors like 25 and 50?

I guess that would be the problem then.

The manual that panasonic sends with the camera is very confusing and misleading.

It shows on pg. 77 how to do an “AVC” transfer from the cam to the computer using either USB or firewire (which is weird because this cam does not do avc). Then it shows how to do a tape transfer which is the old 200 model and not the 170. It doesn’t mention anything about not being compatible with the P2 codec.

    Oh, well. Thanks again.

Ok, any thoughts on the last question?

March 5, 2009 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Pal conversion question

I have most of the shows on a dvcpro master. However, they also want seperate M&E tracks for future shows so I have 10 or so with their timelines still.

Is there some mode of recording that I could make the NTSC to PAL conversion easier yet still have it look good in both?

    TIA

    Sam

    Hi Dino,

    Thanks for your response.

As far as my source, it’s DVCPRO HD at 720p and DVCPRO50

I am on the East Coast about 2hrs south of NYC and 2 hrs north of Philly.

If i were to outsource, what’s the process? what do i need to provide them? Is it just my FCP timeline and all the media?

    TIA

    Sam
