just tried making a new project and import footage… on the laptop its fine up until i import footage and put it in the timeline. i hit play, and it takes 5 seconds to play. and no video. and then it freezes. i will test this out now with the external monitor as well.

    hi Erik

    1) i have a Dell Precision m4700
    2) the resolution on the laptop screen is 1920×1020.. the external monitor is 1650×1080. Its so weird, premiere runs horridly slow now with just the laptop monitor and can’t load up video at all. but with the external monitor its quick as can be and works perfectly.
    3) i have the MPE set for hardware. i’ve edited with just my laptop screen before without problem… but running the antivirus changed something, definitely.
    4) my system restore points were off, yes. i just turned them on.

hi Erik thanks for the reply.

unfortunately i didn’t have system restore on, so i’m sunk.

but, i just noticed something. I just got home, put my laptop in the dock which is connected to an external monitor. On the dock and with the external monitor Premiere works PERFECTLY. not a hiccup. And then i took it off the dock and used the laptop screen and premiere crashed again. what gives? 🙁

    any suggestions? 🙁

  • Mr. biscardi, any suggestions for hard drive configurations for a laptop? I’m getting suggestions for an esata external hd… or maybe another internal?

  • ivan, you would use a 960gb ssd for video file storage? or the ssd for the os/cs5?

  • I guess my question would be, what would you recommend I get in order to be able to adequately handle 1920×1080 HD footage and still be mobile, considering my current specs and cost being a factor?

I have no problem having the geek squad or whomever changing my OS to my 128gb ssd, but what else would you recommend I do/get? Right now the OS and cs5 is on a 750gb 7200rpm HD, and a 128ssd for a scatch disk. I’m forced to use my 750gb hd or buy an external HD for my project.files… But I’ll go with your recommendation.

  • Mr Biscardi, thank you for the reply. please forgive my ignorance… i’ve never heard of a media array. What is it and can i/ should i add it to my laptop considering my specs? i’m working on a laptop with the above specs, including a 750gb HD where the OS and programs are installed, and a 128gb ssd for the scratch disk.

what would you do to my system considering i’d like to be mobile and edit HD?
