I wanted to thank Eric Bowen for taking the time to remote into my computer and check out what was going on. So here’s what he found. and maybe Eric can give a more descriptive version of what i’m going to attempt to describe.

there was nothing wrong with Premiere. Eric installed updated Intel and Nvidia drivers, but the problem that was occurring during GPU accelerated graphics being enabled persisted. So, Eric suggested turning off Nvidia optimus. the Intel 4000 graphics are typically used on a laptop to save battery life, and Optimus apparently turns on the nvidia graphics when they are needed. apparently what was going on is the optimus drivers got corrupted, and they weren’t turning on the K2000M nvidia card in time to be used with Premiere. so, once optimus was turned off, the K2000M became the default, and now everything works perfectly. I can now even boot up video games on my laptop that crashed before for what Eric says is the same optimus not booting up the K2000M in time problem. the only downside is that the battery will be drained quicker, but i’m never exclusively on my battery using my laptop, so there is no loss for me.

Eric did a fantastic and patient job looking over my laptop.. he did this free of charge and for a stranger. Many kudos to him for helping someone that was having a major laptop crisis! 🙂

hi Eric… I removed everything from the taskbar… thats not it.. and i have to finish this project shortly so i can’t do the RAM tonight.. but I’ve done RAM tests recently, and all 16gb’s seem to be ok. this is some weird happenstance that only happens with my laptop’s display. not sure what to do.

I’m totally open to you remoting in though?

eric – if it helps, i was running Premiere on my external monitor with GPU Acceleration. i then unplugged my laptop from the external monitor, and was running Premiere with GPU acceleration with my laptop’s display. it was perfectly fine. then i restarted Premiere with GPU acceleration and it went back to no video and crashing.

hi Erik – i definitely appreciate your help. i’d like to avoid re-installing the OS if i can. i don’t mind re-installing Premiere… but do you think that will really do anything considering the problem seems to be RAM/GPU related?

yipes, i always get nervous when i install drivers.

this was genuinely working perfectly before i ran the anti-virus yesterday… shouldn’t i just re-install the old drivers if anything?

tried switching back and forth from hardware to software in my original project, but no change. didn’t run video on software either.
