Thanks Bob – we looked at that 40×40 option but we really need the deck routing. Besides, how soon will we outgrow the 40×40!!!

We had a similar issue with our 12×24 HD workgroup hub router.
We already had a Pesa SD 24×16 SDI router and linked 2 outputs from the Pesa to the Workgroup and visa versa.
Then later we had to expand our HD routing so we got another 12×24 Workgroup hub and linked to that as well (including the 422 controls). The only problem was that each Workgroup hub required its own USB interface to a computer with its own IP address. So we had to instal separate networked computers for each. Thats where those old notebook PC’s come in handy. In fact we had two 8 year old Dell notebooks running both hubs. Waste not, want mot!
I suppose the next step is to sell the lot and instal a new 72×72 Workgroup hub; then what?!?

I read somewhere that the new FCP X will allow editing of captured footage while it is still capturing the same file.
What I understand this to mean in your application is that you can start capturing, and 10 mins later put the ‘clip’ on the timeline and start playing back.
Of course this requires a I/O device like Blackmagic or Aja and a raid drive which 3 x 2tb internal to a Mac Pro could provide.
So why am I suggesting this?
Well that ‘Mac Pro Box’ can be used as an editing system when not doing your ‘live delay’ – or – you could hire the system off anyone who has it as it is a fairly standard setup.Remember, a hammer can also hammer screws in, not just nails!

FCP will show those odd error messages when it runs out of memory.
The work around is to close FCP and then restart and do your export immediately.I don’t know why it can’t just say “out of memory” rather than “codec error” or “out of disc space” or even worse “general error”.
I wonder what all the new workarounds are going to be with the “X factor”

Just a note on the rendering thing.
We have a Playstation 3 for testing Blu-ray creation.
It is also used for playing games like Colin Mcrae DIRT 3 as we have a wheel setup and a racing chair. This gets plenty of use while rendering – especially while rendering in Color (we haven’t told our clients that we can keep editing in FCP while Color is doing its thing).
With the advent of FCPX the whole Playstation gaming is going to have to wait for a Color project but maybe that will be a thing of the past when Color X (64 bit) is released.
We pre-ordered “Dirt 3” which is due next Monday; its probably not too late to cancel.
So yup; FCPX is going to ruin everything here; it will probably bring down the Playstation network, again!Sam Cole

We recently hired 3 Sony BVP 330 camera’s as props for the Movie “Mao’s Last Dancer”. We got $1000 per week for each camera and they didn’t even turn them on!
We have a Sony BVP 7 with an SP recorder back that until recently was decorating our reception area. We cased it to make way for a pot plant.
