January 16, 2012 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Videohub software on iPad 2

Hello Joshua and thanks for your reply.

The problem is not that it is disconnecting; quite the opposite. Once connected it stays connected; its just getting it to connect in the first place takes 20-30 attempts even longer sometimes.

We have 2 videohubs being controlled by 2 different PC’s with fixed IP addresses.
    The first is 192.168.2.201
    The second is 192.168.2.202
    The wireless router is 192.168.2.1

There is only about 20 mac/pc computers using this network and they all connect to both routers OK. I can even control both routers at the same time by running 2 instances of the videohub software.
The iPad2 will also (eventually) connect to either router just by changing its videohub IP in the settings.
I tried it using another iPad2 and it did the same thing; rarely connects.
I also run other networking apps on the iPad2 such as “Filebrowser” and “Remotix” and they connect to all the network computers ok.

Well from the lack of responses I guess this iPad app is a NO GOER.

Apple should remove it from the app store.

December 31, 2011 at 12:31 am in reply to: Blackmagic to buy AVID (My Speculation Only)

I think what would be far more profitable AND cheaper for Blackmagic to buy would be the source code for Final Cut Studio 3.
Then they could rework it into 64 bit AND port it to Windows.
Apple would make money out of something they have trashed and be left with their consumer edit system and tell everyone they looked after the pro’s by letting someone else take over the app.
Avid will then go down hill even faster as FCP 8 with the power of Blackmagic behind it would prove too competitive.
Adobe will go back to India to get cheap buggy software written to remain competitive.
Edius will be purchased by the Japanese and revitalised.
Vegas will still be a gambling town that Sony will try to buy and Media 100 will still be where it is now.
    Can’t comment on Lightworks.

Perhaps when Blackmagic reinvent the GOOD version of Final Cut they would rename it “Diva” to save it being confused with FCPX.

[Danny Davis] “When you say mc 6….are you saying you could you this as a finishig tool with whatever plug ins you need to do the job?”

Yes. We have MC 6 connected to a Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme and use it exactly the same way we use FCP 7.
The only difference is the way we send it to Color for grading.
We do all our audio post in Nuendo via OMF export and always have.

[Shane Ross] “FCX? As a finishing tool? Hahahahahahahahaahahaa! I needed that…”

What Shane is saying is that FCPX is a toy, and will be for sometime yet; it shouldn’t even rate, even PPro is better than it and that is really saying something.

We still use FCP 7/Color for all our international work but are slowly converting over to MC 6.

(ps. I go way back to 2″ editing, and then some!)

  • it is 16 input and 32 output.
The design is based on having eg 16 rooms that each feed the router and 2 feeds back to each room as 1 for input to the NLE and 1 for the room monitor.

[Sam Cole] “Is it possible to run the Ultrascope software on an exiSting 1 lane decklink card?”

One missing ‘S’ can change the whole meaning of a sentence!
