[Chuck Obernesser] “I have tried to save out video to an SD type card and the card did not accept it”

If the card is FAT32 and your file is over 4gig (most probably) then then card will not accept it.

August 24, 2011 at 12:59 am in reply to: LLoyd Chambers reviews Mac OS Lion – shades of FCPX

The guy in that video is just like my boss; he rants and raves about how bad both Mac and PC software behaves. He calls software developers “Ferrari Drivers” because they get paid so much to do ‘near working products’ and they can’t wait to finish work so they can drive their Ferrari’s around.

Some of his great quotes are “If Steve Jobs wrote the software that put man on the moon they would still be there!” and . . . “if Bill Gates made cars there would be carnage on the roads”.

But I do wonder why computer software can be sold as a product with so many faults. I can’t think of any other product that would fit into that category.

. . . if the camera’s you are using have recording facilities then there is your ‘iso’ requirements.

When we do multicam events we use (mainly) EX1/EX3 camera’s into the ATEM and also put them into record as iso’s. Then we have a runner go around during the shows and hot swap the memory cards as they fill up.

Do you think FCP X will ever have a “Milford trunnions” filter?

In FCP the HDV capture window is different than other capture windows.
There is a checkbox in it to enable/disable scene breaks.

July 15, 2011 at 5:58 am in reply to: Look whats comming to avid (maybe)

Not so long ago Adobe Premiere (CS2) almost sent me out of business. FCP saved me at a huge cost; mainly tossing the PC format and buying a whole heap of Mac Pro’s.
I could NEVER go back to Adobe Premiere no matter WHAT good things people say about it. It just leaves so many bad memories.
One saving grace during the whole ordeal was the the 5 edit suites I switched over were all Blackmagic boxes so no costs there; they worked on both systems.
But if those same boxes can be used with Avid AND my Mac Pro’s, well that is where I will end up (if FCPX can’t get its act together).
Time will tell, but not too much time (read – less than 2 years).

[Chad Brewer] “Line 21 is the line allocated for closed captioning, not 23.”

Really? Not where I come from – VITC is line 21 (PAL)

That is the price less the GST. They finally realised that there is NO gst on software. They have been charging gst on software for years and I have been claiming it back!

. . . and added to that they charge a small service fee for HANDLING the GST (VAT) component.

    BUT . . .

In Australia I was always told by my accountant that there is NO GST on software – so I claim back the GST what the Apple store charges (as I did for the last FCP 7 upgrade)
