Dave, Your point was well taken and your sarcasm overlooked, but as you are now making false claims about me (intentional or not) I feel I must clarify (in similar jeering style, for fun):

“High school and college students are one thing. People who claim they’re pros are another.”

Yes, because I clearly stated in my post that I am a pro.

“If I had a dime for every post from someone making a living as a shooter/editor that asked, ‘how come my DVD doesn’t look as good as my original video?’ ”

Yes, because as all random strangers on the internet would know, I am making my living by shooting and editing (Actually, I am a composer. I enjoy working with video as a hobby.)

“You’d think people who make video — which they in turn are paid for — might have the knowledge to figure out that head-scratcher on their own. I have no compassion for them. ”

Yes, because I always make sure to run all the monetary logistics of my projects by Dave LaRonde and he would know the masses and masses of cash I’m piling up over here.

In conclusion, we return to the old saying: if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all, UNLESS of course you’re going to make a good point while doing so and it doesn’t matter how sarcastically you deliver it because you’re not a real person in essence, just a bunch symbols on a screen.

PS – Thank you everyone, including Dave, for their input on this topic.

No I am not expecting any miracles…?

I am trying to make sure that I’m not missing any steps for maximizing the quality on DVD.

    Thanks.

  • Dave and David,

    Thank you for your input.

Maybe this info will shed some light on the subject. Here are my sequence settings and clip info.

    SEQUENCE SETTINGS:

    Frame Size: 1440 x 1080
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440×1080
    Field Dominance: Upper (odd)
    Editing Time Base: 29.97

    QUICKTIME VIDEO SETTINGS

    Compressor: XDCAM EX 1080p24(35Mb/s VBR)

    CLIPS INFO

    Most of them are 1920 x 1080 @ 23.98 fps w/ Compressor XDCAM EX 1080p24…
    The others are 1440 x 1080 @ 29.97 fps w/ Compressor HDV 1080i60…

    The AE titles I created are 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 fps w/ Compressor “Animation”

Also, the Pixel Aspect Ratios vary from Square (1920) to HD 1440×1080

    —————–

The strange thing about it is sometimes it plays normally and sometimes it freaks out and I hvae to revert to a saved FCP file to get it back to normal…

How does one avoid these problems when working with footage shot w/ different formats etc.?

    Thanks again for your input.

    Much appreciated.

    JT
